Absurdly fast internetconnection - Why the hell for?

I hate everyone here, i live in Canada and the best plan i can get is over 100 bucks a month with 2 meg speed and a 200gb download limit.

..Seriously, is that near any urban center, or "out in the woods"? Because 100 bucks for 2meg is fucking laughable.

Hope not. Canadian here. I'm paying $60 CAD a month for 25/MBit and no bandwidth cap.
Our infastructure is overpriced and owned my only 2 companies who will never get stuck with monopoly laws because they're best buddies with the CRTC. But 100 bucks for 2/MB is atrocious.

My provider is rogers and the 2mb plan is the best one they "Offer" to my area, and im in a large city its fucking stupid. My current plan is 1.5mb with 100gb download cap for 70 bucks. Are you with Bell? If so im fucking switching screw rogers.

I'm paying out the ass for 12MBPS with AT&T.

Lets just say I'm switching soon, I have NEVER had to deal with this bad service, our speed gets so slow sometimes that I can't even load up firefox. Download speeds drop to like 100kbps and youtube refuses to even load.

Hell youtube takes forever to buffer anyways, and since I'm an admin on gmod theater, multiplayer youtube, I can't even get on to moderate.

So yeah USA does have bad BA isp's

Also, I've called people out like 12 times to fix these problems, they are sent out, and the problem stops. They leave and the problem returns. This has caused their tech support outright to call me a liar and have them charge me 100$ for them just looking at my internet and saying nothing is wrong.

Because nothing is more awesome than downloading full sized blue ray movies in 30 minutes while playing your favorite online game as your downloading 20 porn videos while on webcam with your gf.

And thats just on your desktop computer. We haven't even started on the notebook sitting in your lap.

100 mbps is not absurdly high. its the standard in all countries that have decent internet (and no america is NOT one of them).
absurd internet would be 1000 mbps, because most modems cant handle that anyway.
i need my 300mbps line for: donwloadable games, downloadable videos, streaming of HD videos, possibly will need in future for streaming of games, hosting my own website and many other things. there is usually over 100gb of traffic going though my line monthly.
not to mention that fiberoptics have significantly lower pings. my average ping is 17-40 ms.

Sure, this I know, but it just brings me back to the original "what kind of average person would warrant this upgrade in infrastructure?".
But perhaps cloud-computing will kick-through.

I've always had a 100Mbit connection and I'm not complaining.
Also I thought that 100Mbit was the standard in Sweden OP.

im sat here with 5 down thinking why not have super fast internet? download a whole game or movie in minutes not hours yes please, the more power the more better. (when i downloaded cod 4 onto my xbox it took 3 days becuse my internet is so bad not only did it download slowly but the download frequently failed)

also there thinking of the future, now 25bit will do but in the future (probably very soon considering the huge growth in web traffic that's happening) it will become unusable, so there upgrading

How often do the average, non-gamer download (legally) an entire movie or a game?
You have to start realizing that we are a minority.

And even as a gamer, I rarely use the Steam-download anyway, and when I do, I feel that 40min downloading an entire game is acceptable.

More and more often, as many developers are switching to DD plattforms like steam.

Running a dedicated server comes to mind. Failing that when some Companies don't want to sell us Games anymore, People could get together in Virtual LANs. Company turned off the Servers for your Game? Go play it on the Internet in a Virtual Lan.

Move large Files around like Videos. If you upload stuff to youtube with a decent resolution, you will appreciate a fast connection speed.
