Back in the day I did this a lot, I had a lot of fun with it in Pirates!
My dear Captain Fartybum, we are war with the Dutch, I charge to seek out and destroy the enemy's ships and towns.

Nowadays not so much, although my favorite name for a Commander Shepard is Cybill. and yes I khow her last name is spelled differently. (Does it bug anyone else that Shepard is in charge of a vessel and doesn't get called Captain? Because even if you are a Lieutenant and you are in command of a ship you get called Captain.)

It's his actual rank, it has nothing to do with running a ship or not. I dunno that their naval officer ranks are exactly the same as the US Navy's, but you get the general idea.

Joking aside, naming Gary all kinds of stupid shit is really popular.

I am reminded of this picture I saw years ago where someone played Ocarina of Time with a Link who they named Jesus. They got to the end and had a screen capture of Ganondorf saying "CURSE YOU, JESUS!" It was pretty funny, but of course I can't find it anywhere now.

Ahh, I learned most of what I know about Naval rankings from Hornblower. The Napoleonic British Navy did things differently.

I can understand the confusion, what with "Captain" Anderson being in charge of the Normandy in ME1, then you get the ship for yourself and they're still calling you Commander.

I've never given people hilarious names in games before, but i remember The Spoony One in his FF VIII review named one of the character's dog "Anal" so that character had moves such as "Anal Cannon". Immature, but hen that game had a person who had a wrist mounted dog launcher.
A whore used anal reverse.
That line had me laughing so hard.
I think there was also the move "Anal Break" though I havent watched that review in ages.

I named myself Wompa Stompa in a lot of Star Wars games because, well, it was a cheat name in ONE of them so it's bound to work for others!

Also, DIK, FUK, ASS, and Thrillho.

This one's my favourite.

OT: Every Pokemon I had faced the wrath of my obscene names library.

Punch Rockgroin is a great one for female characters. Roll Fizzlebeef is a great one for ninjas.

Also, Brock. Way manlier than Hank. Just ask Rusty.

I have used "you hooker" and "you asshole" a lot depending on gender. It works in almost every scenario so long as they are speaking in present tense.
A mate of mine has a fairly amusing story about how he managed to get a Zelda game to open with 'wake up, you ****'.

I remember the first furry companion my GF named in Nintendogs was something obscene. "Shithead" or something about as appropriate for polite company.

Then she learned you have to actually call the dog's name into the DS's microphone. I think dog #2 was swiftly named "Puppy".

I never abused this much, but I remember abusing the "Enter Your Name" feature in Sven Co-op (an awesome co-op mod for the original Half-Life) by adding "Good News!" in front of my name.

Gave me and some buddies quite a few laughs, since the kill messages would pop up as "Good News! Skywolf was killed by a Gargantua" or "Good News! Skywolf fell or drowned or something."

I tend not to abuse names.. except in FF9 where I call Steiner Bob since.. I hate that character.

A friend f mine always used to name his Geodude Ass, then he always learned mud sport. :(

I'm surprised no one posted about the racist Oak thing. There's a picture floating around where someone named their rival in Pokemon "a Jew" which once he beat the Elite 4 led to Professor Oak saying "a Jew, I'm so disappointed." Needless to say this could be swapped out with any racial/social/religious group, but I thought that was a popular exploit.

My friend calls himself "I do say", because it makes everyone sound hilarious.

"How was the battle, I do say" "I do say, have anything to sell?"
