I guess this isn't really a complaint as it doesn't really take anything from the gameplay but I don't get why Ubisoft chose the players it did for multiplayer. I understand that a lot of people love playing the villain in multiplayer games but they should at least have the option of having a few assassins/good guys in the mix. I know I'd really love to play as Machiavelli or Da Vinci. And even if they insist on only templars why do they pick insignificant ones instead of more major characters like the Borgia. I mean, Ezio (spoiler warning I guess) stabs the **** out of Il Carnifice in a mission that lasts maybe a minute and should not pose the slightest challenge for an even remotely skilled player. I don't get why much cooler and more important NPCs in ACB get snubbed while totally insignificant characters get a spot.

I think they're fine, i think they add some variety to using just the hidden blade and add some more personality.

It's because they're not supposed to be powerful. The whole 'story' of the multiplayer is that they are Templar employees in training.

I think it's because Da Vinci didn't go walking around in a group of forty other Da Vincis.
Having anyone significant would make the whole crowd thing seem silly.

It's to do with the whole employee training thing. It isn't real situations, is it?

I haven't personally played Brotherhood, but isn't the multiplayer supposed to be a Templar training program?

I'd say it's nice to have at least a little context to what your doing, even if it isn't the main campaign.

So they can have "unique characters". Honestly, I like it. Getting to play as the Harlequin is really fun, but some of the personas are just really stupid *coughFootpadandSoldiercough*

It is loosely tied to the story. Abstergo is training it's own assassins to take out the Assassins. They choose them because you are the Templars training to kill others, not Templars killing Assassins and vice versa.

EDIT: They are also part of the main story, you having to kill Malfatto (The Doctor) in the main quest, quite early on. The rest are in the Templar missions, I think. So they are a part of the main story more than they appear to be. I just hope Ubisoft doesn't forget this and incorporates it into AC3. It looks like they will, what with the past games being heavily connected.
