It could have been such an awesome game and it just turned out to be meh.

Glitches, poor writing, sluggish combat, and worst of all, the sheer overwhelming amount to stuff to do. If they hadn't tried to make it so big, it could have been game of the year, I think. But they spent so much time and CD space implementing useless stuff like hunting and homesteading that the core AC stuff suffered.

I absolutely hate it when something good is brought down by stupid things and this is a case of that.

Speak for yourself.

I've only started playing this game a little while back and I'm loving it thus far, sure not everything in it is essential or is as interesting as it was probably intended to be but that's certainly nothing new for Assassins Creed.

The amount of people so down on this game is what makes me sad...

I'm not really down on it. I like it a lot. It's just that it could have been so much better.

I think the worst thing about the game is that the main storyline is not interesting whatsoever, and the combat feels even simpler than the previous games. It also really doesn't feel like you're part of the Assassin Order, you're just some random guy acting without any superiors.

It started out really quite well. I loved how the traditional AC free-running had transitioned to the frontier, and the story seemed to be taking a more complex approach on the Assassin/Templar conflict, as well as actually explaining shit to us for once. Not to mention the ship missions were terrific (seriously, if Ubisoft had just made a full game around those ship mechanics, I would have lapped that up and asked for seconds).

But then it started to sag beneath the weight of disappointing character turns, bugs, lack of direction, repetitive busywork and boring urban environments, but still, for the longest time I still considered it a big improvement on Revelations.

Than came the ending, and... Gods, that was just abysmal.
