Nominations have been annpunced, which means it is time to speculate.

see full list here

ok, so the only real prediction i have so far is Social Network for Best picture, though id prefer to see it go to Toy Story 3. the only other real contender in that category is The Kings Speech

Nolan didn't get a Best Directing nomination.
Tron didn't get a Best Visual Effects or Art Direction nomination.

That is crap.

Otherwise, I'm happy with them.

Oh my god...I never realised how sparse 2010 must have been for films cause I am so sick of reading "True Grit" and "Black Swan" on that list.

Yes they were obviously awesome films, but put some variation in your lists. My GOD!

And am I the only person who thinks 'The Kings Speech' is the stupidest idea for a film ever? (this isn't nomination-related, but i didn't wanna start a thread for it)

I've always considered award ceremonies nothing more than circle-jerks for rich people anyway, so...

It's pretty stupid, but there is this [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1486185/], which I saw a poster for today.

So you wrote this post to tell everyone how much you don't care about the thing the thread is on? Great logic...

As for the topic, I'd like to hope Toy Story will win best picture but I have to agree The Social Network is the most likely candidate. If it didn't win that it should win best Animated feature just for the fact it's the only film out of the three up for animated feature also included in best picture...but then again we all know these ceremonies don't run on logic.

My point was, often what wins these awards isn't necessarily who deserves it but whoever manages to grease the wheel most efficiently.

Okay, I didn't even go to see it, but seriously: Tron Legacy passed over in favour of IRON MAN 2 for Visual Effects?

The Social Network to sweep the awards.

That's not what you said, and it's not what you implied. Either way your comment was ultimately pointless, much like your reply, since the thread is not a "let's insult award shows" thread but a discussion on possible winners. Hence the point as to why your post was moronic.

I am actually unfortunately going to disagree with you, i think How to train your dragon is a good enough movie to dethrone pixar after its long run of non-challenges. It is a very good new series, which had great voice acting, good pacing and actually had a heart. I feel a lot of toy story 3's (which i loved) good points come from nostalgia more than its qualities as a film.
I'll admit I haven't seen How to train your Dragon, though I'm now curious after your description. I guess we'll see at the end of the day, these type of event often throw up a few surprises.

I disagree. Yeah, there is nostalgia to TS3, but I truly think that the film suceeded because it, as a kids film, was able to successfully address the issue of mortality in a way most adult films cant. I mean, as someone going to college the same year as andy, no film made as big an impact on me as TS3
