Mine isn't loud -_-

Its pretty darn quiet actually. I don't know why. Maybe it means it's going to break soon. =o

Just did a quick look and it says that the dvd rom for the xbox 360 is a 12x one.... how many rpm is that?
7200RPM no? I know once in a while mine will open up before the disks stops spining and it's going fast enough to fly out of the tray a little.

That explains why 360 games seem more durable and can get date read off of them so fast. I actually wondered about this since the noise was definitely not the fans.
Do you mean the 360 DVD's are more durable then rgular DVD's to handle the rotation speed?
Yeah. Actually......
*goes to check
Yeah they are slightly more durable (they don't bend as much as regular DVD's).
I wonder if it's the same with Blu-ray disks (goes and starts bending all of his games)
That'll go down well.

Hm, oh? My 360 is still noisy when there's no disc in the drive, heck, it's still noisy even if it's in standby mode just downloading stuff! Maybe I have one of the louder units.

NXE = Useless article?

"I'm not really sure what the RPM is"
"I have no problems sticking my hands around running machinery"
"and thus is probably more efficient."
"I'm a massive douche and everyone thinks I'm a tool"

I just thought tell you some more things about the system, to confirm. You're welcome in advance.

-When you hit the power button the 360, it turns on.
-Hitting the sync button makes lights dance.
-These two things do not work when the unit is unplugged.

Pfft, it's much quieter than the DVD drive in my PC which sounds like a concrete saw, fortunately PC games don't do much disc access. Really, I didn't notice the volume from the 360 until I listened closely because it's next to my PC.

mythbusters proved that it has to be pretty damn fast in order for the disk to shatter
What about microfractures or something? I know I've heard of shattered CDs (in pretty slow drives compared to what we have now IIRC) before though they didn't happen regularly, I suspect it requires some rare damage.

Well, it does present a novel use for a dead Xbox - convert it to a ninja weapon!
Thats gonna be one loud ninja, oh well who needs stealth when you have it shooting out serrated discs at that speed.

mines pretty quiet of all my friends mines the only 360 that hasnt died yet (i still have a fully functional NES so im not suprised) i keep my games/consoles in good condition but i hear its internal problems for hte most part of the new systems breaking down, but my 360 has been known to "lag" in the eyes of my friends, maybe mines not fully functional and thats what makes it work so well

This is why saving to Hard Drive reduces the noise the console produces exponentially. There's almost no actual disk/data transfer. Honestly I wouldn't run a game for any length of time without it.

Indeed - fire it once, clear an entire building of guards!

thats not loud, there are plenty of things that are loader than that. like a super awesome gaming computer, thats loud.
Lucky mines average range, its as quiet as a mouse compared to my 360, which effectively drowned out the washing machine (that sounds like a small plane taking off).
