Today's question is simple: What's the stupidest or most redundant thing you've done because it's gotten you an achievement/trophy/badge/whatever? I've noticed that games can make me do things I would never have thought to do, nor wanted to do had I thought of them, just because they put a shiny token next to it and refused 100% completion to me until I'd done it.

I can't, off the top of my head, think of a good example in an actual game, but I've got an Escapist one. I joined the site, like a lot of people, for Yahtzee, but I didn't actually make an account until there was that one forum thread I just HAD to comment on. By this time, I'd watched a shit-ton of videos. So, when I discovered that there were badges for watching said videos, and since I hadn't been a member at the time, I wasn't getting them, I went back and rewatched EVERYTHING once I'd had an account in order to get that stupid little justification of the wasting of my life on this website. (Case in point, I've only just now gotten the 'Watched every ZP episode' badge because I had to rewatch all of those)

So what game has made you dance like a monkey for its amusement?

Zombie Genocidest on Left 4 Dead. I had to kill 53,595 zombies, it took forever. But I did enjoy playing the game a lot so it wasn't too bad.

The going down?! Achievement in world of warcraft , can't seem to get it done when i try only by accident .

Also i went outta my way to get the " one gun" achievement on my first play through of deadspace on normal , basically had to beat the game using only the plasma cutter , pretty proud of that one.

"Circle of Life" achievement in Tiger Woods 2010. Took me over a year to get a bogey, par, birdie, eagle AND a hole-in-one in a single round of my career. Talk about the stars having to align... I threw my controller no fewer than 100 times and added about 47 new swear words to my vocabulary going for this one. When I popped, I almost cried. Pathetic.

I'd say the achievement in the Orange Box where I had to beat Episode 1 with only firing a single bullet.

That was a pain... the achievement was so unstable.

There's one in TF2 where you have to use an Ubercharge on a Scout and have him make 3 kills before the charge runs out. It's pretty stupid because the scout is a hit-and-run type fighter and having him rush into a group of fully healed demos, soldiers, and pyros is absolutely retarded. And the scout would roam too far away from the medic to keep the charge on the first place.

GTA Vice City I went through everything for a 100% completion. Can't say I regretted a moment of it though, it was awesome fun all the way through (really, even the grindy bits, it was fun to find them all) and the reward at the end was awesome (being able to hire 2 guys to drive around with you, something San Andreas and other games capitalised on later and made commonplace, but was a really awesome surprise/reward at the time).

WoW I did some remarkably stupid achievements. Not many of them tbh and none that I really regret doing much. Yeah I wasted my time on some of them, but for the most part it was a lot of fun. Like fishing in Orgrimmar for ages for that special catch with my Alliance Druid. The experience was great, went with a few friends, we had a good laugh, a few fights (really awesome fights, stealth and open world PvP is a fun combination), met some Hordies including a few "big names" of the time, even stayed friends with some for a good while.

So the dumbest achievements... yeah, I don't get into them much tbh. I did do some boring ones like some boring fishing achievements in WoW, but then I spent 90% of the time web browsing around, only alt tabbing to click the bobber, so nothing I regret or feel like an idiot for too much :p

PS
What is it with browser spelling checks being retarded and not recognizing standard words (like a fishing bobber) or UK English spelling? >.<

I think this one too. I mean, I don't mind. It was hilarious playing 4 person co-op and having one guy stand at the top of a cliff while the other three constantly jump off trying to hit this elite.

Christ, after the 50th spartan hit the floor next to him he must have been WTFing so hard.

I've completed Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops on Veteran, which I never would have done if I didn't get a trophy for it. I've also played through Uncharted 2 on Crushing, found all 150+ wanted posters in Mafia II, and completed Rock Band 3's Endless Setlist. As for the craziest thing I've done, in Killzone 2 there was a trophy for commiting suicide with a grenade while taking 2 enemies with you. Sure I died and had to respawn from the checkpoint, but I got a trophy for it.

Jumping on an enemies head on borderlands for the "my brother is an italian plumber" achievement?
Killing a rabbit in fable 2 for the "hunter" achievement
Defeat an enemy with a rotten egg in res5 for the "egg on your face" achievement
spent hours shooting off enemy hats in frontline fuel of war for "fashion police"

and the list could go on lol, and thats if im only using the stupiest per game :p

I've got One Free Bullet on HL2 Episode 1. Pretty much what it says on the tin: only fire a single bullet (grenades, rockets, grav gun and crowbar are accepted). That one was a lot of fun.

The one bullet is used to shoot a lock off. Don't miss.

I also have Little Rocket Man from Episode 2. I love Gnome Chompski but the little **** is frustrating as hell sometimes. For example, fleeing the Hunter-Chopper in the jalopy is harder when you're stopping to walk back every ten fucking seconds and pick him up.

But I played Elton John's Rocket Man as the shuttle launched at the end, so it was totally worth it.

I haven't taken achievements and the like seriously in quite some time, but if I stand to give any advice to people who still do, Do not bother with the 5-day survivor one in Dead Rising 1. The laser sword is not worth it, not by a long shot, it's essentially a katana (in attack style) that can be used as a spear (holding down attack button, I think) and comes with 300 uses.

Also, attempting any "hardest difficulty" ones will likely awaken the old gods, bring them to your game, and have them do everything they possibly can to get in the way under the guise of preposterously bad luck.

The "One Free Bullet" in Half-Life 2: Episode 1. You only get to fire one bullet in the entire game.

This was also when I did my "hard difficulty" playthrough, so it was pretty tough. But quite fun actually. :D
