Hey Y'all! This is a thread for discussing those good old achievements/trophies!
Do you like them? Do you collect them? Should Nintendo have a similar system?

I was thinking the other day, they should add achievements to old Xbox games that can be downloaded from Xbox Live or played through backwards compatibility. I think this will encourage people to play through some classics they may have missed, such as Jade Empire.
I would also love it if we got special avatar gear, or something similar, for reaching achievement milestones.

I'll leave you to discuss whilst I go pester Microsoft. :)

If they were to add achievements to old Xbox games, they would have to re-code the games. It's too much hassle to do just for achievements. Microsoft want to focus on new games.

I love them. They make the games replayable and last longer.

I kind of wish they released more extra 360 avatar gear though.

I'm quite a bit of a trophy whore (PS3). Not that I want every single trophy in a game (only got one platinum), but I often play just to get them. This is mostly because when I buy a game I want to get the maximum out of it.

I know they're worth nothing, but it does make me replay old games a lot, which is good.

Ah, I see your point. My second point still stands though.

Adds to games replayability and encourages you to do things you normally wouldnt. Thats good in my book.

That sums it up for me. Most of the time you don't even get in-game rewrds.......
I don't care about the rewards, if I get an achievement I feel a sense of accomplishment. I feel even better if I 100% a game, but I don't do that often. Only happened with 3 games, but I have a feeling this summer, because I get 10 weeks off after GCSE's, it will go up to a lot more.

Yeah, so do I.
In fact, I got really psyched when my old fav, CS: Source was announced to have an update with achievements.
And, RDR does have the gear, doesn't it? Could be a neat example.

I never really bother collecting them, just seems like a waste of time that could be spent playing new games or completing old forgotten ones...

Meh, not really into them myself, though I will admit it's appealing for being called a jack-off when you've shot your 100th pedestrian >:3

Really, the only one that I want to get all rewards in is in Saints Row 2, but really it seems the more I"m getting closer, the more I realized I need somebody to help me with at least the co-op part of it.

They add some replay value to a game and make me explore aspects of the game I'd otherwise probably just ignore, so I'd say they serve a good enough purpose for me outside of a useless score/number. I used to go out of my way to get them, but now I just look at them before I start playing a new game and just get one if I get the opportunity.

When trophies were added, I thought it was stupid and pointless. Then I started unlocking them. I'll admit, I like the feeling of accomplishment I get from seeing that notice pop up and tell me I win something.

I will get a trophy if the opportunity arises, but I won't play for the sole purpose of getting them.

I don't ever go out of my way for trophies. If I get them, cool, if not, I'll check what they are after I finish the game, and go back to get some if they are easy, but some stuff just isn't worth the effort.

I actually really enjoyed a system in the first Mass Effect where unlocking achievements meant gameplay rewards. For example, using a specific ability alot meant that I had now unlocked that ability and could add it to another character class that wouldn't normally get to use it.

So the Adept class for example, very focused on biotic, or magic power attacks rather then combat oriented abilities. But kicking ass with my soldier on this playthrough means that when I make an adept, I could give him the ability to be proficient with Sniper Rifles. Now all of a sudden I can hide in the back with my sniper rifle and still go biotic crazy.
