Some acronyms are retarded, most are just tolerable shorthands, and few really snappy, good-sounding ones - which you can say in a second - you can have lots of fun with. Like R.Y.N.O.
Thats a good point. Some of them i don't mind for a couple reasons. If your abreviation does not meet at least one of these reasons, then it shouldn't be allowed.

1: It forms an easily pronounceable or catchy word. (examples: Kotor, Graw, MAG)
2: It abbreviates a sufficiently long name. (examples: mmorpg, Kotor)

But most of them i don't care for. And R.Y.N.O. is an awesome example of #1.

It tests to see if you're keeping up on gaming news and the subculture and community at large. if you dont' know it, then you ahven't been.

Though some only work in context.

TL:DR

But seriously some are good and useful like GRAW (Ghost recon advance war-fighter), which is way too long (plus they should have used warrior instead of war fighter) others are plain lazy.

That's what w00t means?! I always thought that it was just another way of saying "Hell Yeah!" or "Sweet!" Man, I must've made an ass out of myself quite a few times without realizing it...

I don't like it when people shorten Assassin's Creed to "AC." I always think they're talking about Armored Core. In fact, I think I'll make some comment about Armored Core every time I catch someone doing that.

I don't mind other acronyms at all.
Yeah, that one (AC) throws me off, too.

I took a few months from an online RPG only to find on my return that "SS" had somehow changed from referring to the skill (and thus, role based on it) "Spiteful Spirit" to the role "Spirit Spammer," even though the former was still a viable build. I mean, really?

You think this is bad?

I work in nuclear power plant design. I have a document 83 (repeat: EIGHTY THREE) pages long of acronyms and I'm having to add new ones by hand in the margins.
