Or Grass roots. But seriously, this is a problem for a lot of places because we had signatories before SOPA and PIPA ever became a thing. It was kind of funny when it was called "Europe's/Ireland's/whatever's SOPA," because America were the ones behind it (Along with Japan, the two major contributors if I remember).

People declared victory when SOPA and PIPA were shelved, but we'd already had this treaty signed. It's good for Europe (for now), but people kinda forgot about the rest.

And, of course, once the Us starts trying to influence Europe economically over this, ACTA could come back.

The reality is, with popular sentiment against these sorts of actions and far more damning economic dangers on the horizon- *kaff*France*kaff* -SOPA-esque laws are going to the back of the political bus for a while. Depending on how those larger issue pan out, though... we may wish we were back fighting these dumb ass proposals.

Meanwhile the conservative government in the UK is trying create a porn filter that requires anyone who wants to view porn to "opt-in"...otherwise know as putting your name on a government.

Heard awhile ago that this was going to bite the dust but its nice to hear that the EU has seen sense over this. Now let us prepare for the next ill advised bill that tries to stamp out personal freedoms.
