well ive got rid of everything they could think is pirated so am I safe now?
Also images that you downloaded from the web.
I go on deviant art is deviant art now illegal?
Um.......Not sure about that. But it is more than likely.
They would ban a community art website just to stop pirating. isn't that going to far especially when the artists can choose whether the download button is made for the image in question.
This is why the ACTA licks donkey shi*.
they better not force me to delete pictures from my holiday.

How so?
that image you've got as your avatar... Illegal.

Movie bob using snippets of trailers in his video's... Illegal.

people making video's or reviews about games (especially those including video of gameplay)... Illegal.

This treaty will effect everyone. If it passes prepare for a bleak internet experience.
Hmm... I was reading something earlier in a live chat how they've extended some deadline for people to sign from the EU to 9th of September and if they sign it, it wont get passed... Something like that.

By images I mean that you have downloaded not one you have taken yourself.

Heres hoping. Try and find it. We'll try and post it and get as many people as possible to sign.
Nonono, I meant for the Ministers of European Parliament. Not the public.

BTW, this affects more than just piracy... it also gives countries the power to censor websites, which could very easily be abused (though perhaps not easily in the United States without repercussions)

Bad thread maker. Bad!

Not only has this been done before very recently, but you didn't add links, no specifics. Hell you didn't even bother to offer your own views on this subject.

Edit: For prospective posters might I offer a few links?

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.227723-ACTA-is-coming
Rocket Dogs opinions and several other weigh-ins on the subject.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.228417-ACTA-Vs-Anonymous
Title should be fairly self explanitory.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/528.229494-What-are-going-to-do-about-ACTA-if-it-passes
One from yesterday.

There are also numerous threads about the other areas the US goverment and other governments are cracking down on piracy.
I find both your avatar, and information gathering skills to be rather phenomenal.

I hear it doesn't effect UK? If so yay me.
No. No yay you.

It effects us just as much. ACTA = the internet's Doom, everywhere.
Since Canada basically can't change its copyright laws especially to the extent the USA wants (PS. we hate them), if it is on the internet, I can get it. That's a big if though. Hell, I might have to smuggle music across borders! (Ironically, that'll be rather easy).

Oh right.

I actually just read that article as I was searching for a protest to sign.

Not like I made a thread saying anyone should go out and start a petition in their hometown to try to do something about it. It's also not like everyone replied with "IT WONT WORK LOLOLOLOLOLOL." Well, fuck you all now. You have no rights to be bitching.
BUT THERE'S STILL TIME.
GO OUT AND START A DAMN PETITION. FUCK, IT HASN'T PASSED YET. But if you don't do shit it will soon.

As I've said several times, even if it does pass, there's no conceivable way it could possibly be enforced. This entire kerfuffle is the "War on Terrorism" and the "War on Drugs" all over again. Might as well go ahead and call it the "War on Internet Piracy", 'cause it's pretty much the same thing; sound and fury, signifying nothing.

This would actually do more harm than good and I just can't see it any other way. Thousands of ISPs would lose a large portion of their customer base, in turn even more people would lose their jobs, not to mention the controversies that will arise when the law comes knocking down the door of a child to arrest them.

Saying capitalism is heartless would usually sound very communist but ACTA makes it sound all the more true.

For any country to sign this, and for any Internet Service Provider to agree with it, would be a clear indication that those ISPs are just more arms of the government.

In principle, this agreement would nearly destroy the customer base for any ISP that goes along with it. It would utterly destroy it. What business would submit to the destruction of their revenue? That's right.. no business would.. especially mega-corporations who would do anything to make one more dime.

Them agreeing with this.. Time Warner, Verizon, Comcast, etc., would send yet another clear message that government pulls the strings on these corporations. They will be used to spy on you, regulate what you cannot see, and more. Google, Apple and Microsoft will be major supporters of this, and don't worry, they already have the provisions in place to kick the spying into overdrive. Just check out Apple's recent privacy controversy, or how about Microsoft's conspiracy on having the NSA assist them in creating Windows 7? Do I even need to mention Google's adventures in cooperating with tyrannical governments in censoring "sensitive" information to the general public?

So let me get this straight... I'm supposed to believe any of these companies are "private businesses"? That's right, they're not. They're first, and foremost, operations of the government. Otherwise they wouldn't be so large.

This has been planned waaaaaaayyyy before ACTA was even drafted. They spent years laying the foundation for all of this. Once it's active.. it's gonna be bad. Here's hoping it doesn't, but that is more than unlikely.

Pretty much this, people will soon realize the obscene amounts of money and manpower that would have to go into enforcing it. Even if they did spend all that money no one profits but the companies, the tax payer is gouged by having to pay for the enforcement. And it will probably at best just shut down huge sites that distribute media illegally, which has been happening aleady, sites like ninjavideo get shut down routinely to enforce copy rights. Like the war on drugs the government just does a big bust once and a while to save face and claim victory while the average joe and 90% of the crime continues.

There is a petition up, it was in one of the other threads. I can't remember where it was, but you can google it.

And trust me, I've tried rallying people in my hometown before against the local pubs and clubs not accepting citizencard as proof of age despite it clearly being listed as such, and my town is apathy central. Might be worth trying something once I get back to college though.

Its not just that guys, the ACTA will also enforce our internet providers to police our searches (what we put into google) and downloads and report to the government. Basically bugging us! They are allowed to randomly search your phone on the airport. They are allowed to bust into your home and chekc your hard-drive for illegal content. And put charges on you without a free trial. This will be the beggining of the end for the internet...

The petition is here: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/stoptheacta/

OT: I really, emphisis on really, hope this dosn't pass. Or the old internet would die forever, our greatest source of information and arts would be censored. But, in the case that it does...
...Cheers, mates, it's been a honor.
