Last night and today I watched Crank and Crank: High Voltage respectively. I might write a review for those two movies if I have time, but in a nutshell...
THEY KICK SO MUCH MOTHERFUCKING ASS, THAT YOU WON'T BE SURE IF YOU EVEN HAVE AN ASS!!!
*ahem* Basically. I mean, these two films are pretty much the only reason why Jason Statham is in the expendables.

The premise alone would be enough, but what makes them better is the exploit of deliberately controversial material to give themselves one hell of a sharp edge. I'm not going to spoil anything, but main actors Jason Statham and Amy Smart practically re-define public indecency. I could go into detail about the mind-fucking experience that is Crank 2, but the list would go on, and besides, as I said earlier, I don't want to spoil anything.

I mentioned how the use of deliberate controversy gives the film an edge, and this made me think "What other movies out there have this similar trait?" I have decided to call this genre of film "Action Crap", mainly because that's what they are. Pure indecent crap mixed with dark comedy and crazy action.

From what I've heard, Kick-Ass can be filed into this genre, and I'll be more than happy to see for myself. What films have you seen that you can classify with this particular name?

Following on the theme of Jason Statham, Death Race and The Transporter anyone?

Also, Blade II. It's directed by Guillermo del Toro, but is pretty much just Wesley Snipes killing things in badass ways while Kris Kristofferson mumbles things off camera.

Shoot 'em up would fit, it's got some excellent action scenes.

Also, not as much with the comedy, but Hard Boiled, the Killer, Bullet in the Head, and A Better Tomorrow 1 and 2 are all must see action movies.

Well, I'd be willing to do that to Amy Smart in public.

And of course:

Blade II is possibly the most kickass thing ever.

The newest Rambo film was, actually, awesome. very little plot, lots of blood. I think it had/has the most on screen deaths per minute of any film. And some awesome british mercenary types in it too.

Kick-Ass isn't really like Crank at all. It's a lot more calm. It just has a few moments where an eleven year old girl slices up a huge bunch of people. It's a great film though, definately worth watching.

If you want something really similiar to Crank, I'd go for Shoot em up. A film where a dude who eats carrots shoots a shit load of dudes. Not as good as Crank, but something you want to watch.
