And it looks like Rock Band wins by default due to having all the instruments. Furthermore, the way they describe the game makes me think of a shitty FMV title. I mean, I've joked before that gaming's current obsession with trying to be cinematic is akin to the FMV craze of the 90s, but now this affirms my suspicions: we are trying to revive the worst ideas of twenty years ago. Blech

Wii U, you say? *chuckles* You almost had me there... Now, work on DJ Hero Live... with more impromptu/improvable record scratches... and then, we'll talk about your inclusion of Skrillex in this Guitar Hero Live of yours...

Other than that, I don't know if I should feel sorry for Wii U owners or glad that they, too, can indulge in the plastic guitar peripheral as well...
Why the Wii U hate? As a console with a limited library I think it's a great thing Activision haven't forgotten them (unlike Harmonix >:{ )... also I'm a big GH fan and only have Nintendo consoles (not that I'm that interested in this anyway, but with no RB4 they might get a sale from me just because I have no other options. Might).

I also think it's pretty funny that I just dug out my old plastic guitar today after not playing for a year or so, only to log on and see this news of all things.

I think changing up the mechanics is an interesting (though suicidal) idea. I'm really keen to play around with it and good on them for branching out, but they're essentially isolating themselves from the existing fanbase in doing so.

There is something else they're going to have to address. The peripherals themselves. The cheap plastic 'guitars' of the past usually had a microswitch break down, whether it was because it was cheaply made, or overuse (which can happen with microswitches, especially when they're as hammered as they have been in the past peripherals).
My two Les Pauls have survived hundreds, if not 1000+ of hours of beating since GH3. I know they'll break eventually but they've served me damn well thus far and still going strong.

I'm not entirely sure about this. The FMV crowd thing seems a bit... off. Plus a first person camera might cause some seasickness...

Well, first off, I'm sorry if it seemed like I'm "hating" on the Wii U in that particular comment... I should probably give some context into why I was saying the things I was saying... You see, I LOVE the Wii U, but I also LOVE Rockband, which made me sad that RockBand 4 was not going to be on the Wii U... Now, I used to really like the Guitar Hero series until Rockband 2 came along, which swayed me to the side of Rockband more than Guitar Hero ever since... The only other game that wasn't effected by this was DJ Hero, but only because I am bias towards my love for that particular game and really wished they would release another installment in that side-series...

Now, with all that said, I am still happy that Guitar Hero Live is getting a Wii U release, but for me who's been saving up money so that I can finally own a Wii U, I am a bit disappointed that I would have to miss out on Rockband 4 in this particular department... Should I have worded my original comment better? Absolutely, given the lack of background info that wasn't stated in said comment in the first place... However, until they announce a DJ Hero 3[footnote]Or, should we say, DJ Hero Live in this situation...[/footnote] to go along with Guitar Hero Live, the least I can do is be glad that now, at least, every gaming platform (like the Wii U) can take part in the plastic guitar peripheral gameplay aspect in general...

As much as I want to hate on Activision, This seems kinda cool. I might not mind the two games if they differentiate their styles enough. I'm a total Rock Band fanboy, and can't wait to hear more of what they're bringing to the table though.

as much as I enjoyed the first couple games of Guitar Hero and Rock Band I have to go with MEH for this one, for my music gameplay needs I use Rocksmith now

I don't know what else to say but "Fuck you Activision!"

Seriously, did they just hear about Rock Band and say "Me too!"

A new guitar controller designed specifically for the game features two rows of three buttons, eliminating the player's need to move their hand up and down the neck.
This is the part that gets me the most. Shooters are fun because they make you feel like you're in the game, dodging and blasting away at enemies. Guitar Hero was fun, because you felt like you were playing a real guitar once you got up into the higher difficulties. Removing the "slide" is going to make the playing feel less genuine. It might make up for it by adding the second row, but I know when I play the air guitar, sliding up and down the imaginary neck is more important than plucking at various depths on the neck.

Really not impressed with most of the confirmed artists.

But I mean, I was already playing Rock Band a lot more than Guitar Hero in general back in the day. So it shall still be.

I'm rather ok with a lot of the changes. I could NEVER do hard mode, or expert, due to the shifting. My mind and body simply couldn't handle it. I mean, I could shift up, but going back down was the hard part. My hand would get tense after shifting to the harder spots, and no matter how much I practiced, I never got it down. So, I'm rather ok with the button combination changes.

I'm also mixed on the first person live view thingy. I liked the cartoony look of the other games (To a point), but I also kind of like the idea of fan based reactions besides a simple booing sound effect and nothing else. I think it'll be a neat little feedback idea. That being said, I still can't get behind the look of it. It's... weird.

So, I am leaning more towards this being ok. Skrillex was the dumbest idea of an addition and I'm more than happy to tell anyone who thinks it's ok for GUITAR Hero to fuck right off. But besides that, I'm feeling pretty alright with this. Instead of just re-birthing Guitar hero as it was when it died with virtually nothing different, renewing it with a few new additions like this I think is a great way to bring back the dead~

I haven't heard of half of these bands... Am I old now?

I actually think this looks pretty cool (yes, even the FMV stuff... sue me, I think it seems fun and suits the game). I sort of missed the whole music gaming craze so it's to see both this and a new Rock Band coming out. I'm not sure about the change to the controller, but it could work- while sliding is more important in air guitar, the new style should allow for a better kind of psuedo-chords, which might end up being better overall and is (theoretically) closer to a real guitar. The confirmed track list so far is severely lacking in classic rock (only the Rolling Stones), but there's enough really good modern stuff (Gaslight Anthem, Killers, Black Keys) that I'm not overly worried, especially since there will definitely be more artists than just these ones at release. Color me cautiously optimistic.

Edit: Also, for the people complaining about Skrillex being in the track list, keep an open mind. If you look up guitar covers of his songs, some of them work really damn well. I understand the fears but it's not quite as stupid as it first seems.

I'm glad that Activision is doing so much to separate Guitar Hero from Rock Band. In the past, it felt a lot like the same game with 2 different sound tracks. Of course, it sounds god-awful and I don't think I'll be going anywhere near it. Knowing that the next Rock Band is going to be a one-stop shop for my fake instrument-wailing needs, I'll be happy to have less instrument clutter in my living room. :)

Eh.... I'm really not sure how I feel about this. My first thoughts are that I won't like the new button layout, but I'd have try out the new controller before I could tell. I think I'd be more enthusiastic about it if it were two rows of four buttons. Not having drums or a mic doesn't help my opinion out either.

I am glad to see 45 by Gaslight Anthem on there. Same with Weezer and the Killers, although I'd be surprised if there weren't any Killers or Weezer songs.

A franchise that should have stayed dead, and more than half of those artists are crap or substandard...I mean really, Skrillex? That is garbage dubstep that has no place in a guitar oriented game..

I hope this bombs hard.
