Could be a fake, it's registered to some guy in Canada. And Respawn Entertainment is in California.

It's a rickroll. Trust me, what else could tick so many people off?

Either way, I don't really care. I stopped having interest in games by Activision after they cancelled a game I was anticipating just two months before its release date.
What game did they cancel?

OT: Suuuuuure it is Activision *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*

I demand Zombies this time! It's the only mode I even play on the damn thing, their nutty single player campaign story lines aren't winning any awards for coherency, and the online can be a double edged sward.

Good old steadfast zombie mode knows what I like....

Im just curious, what would be the general reaction of the Escapist community if this was a publicity stunt from EA, after all the raging done last week EC and EXP?

God i'd love this to be Bulletstorm or Duke Nukem Forever taking the piss out of Modern Warfare but I highly doubt it.

So Activision are denying it but not going mental with the legal department for using the likeness and some names of their flagship game . . . interesting.

And six months later, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be announced.

I could be wrong. It could be announced three months later.

Activision are bigger attention whores than a group of 13 year old twilight fans, so take what they say with a grain of salt.

I second that. I can imagine the counter running down, and a trailer starts with a Modern Warfare guy in a combat zone, suddenly, we see Duke Nukem riding a nuke out of the sky, obliterating him, then Duke walks away calmly with a huge gun and (insert witty catchphrase here).

I honestly could not care less about another Modern Warfare game. Here's hoping we get Future War or something similar.

I could only wonder where Activision would be right now if they had allowed Infinity Ward's dlcs to be free like the devs wanted. Probably still rich.

Well it occurs to me that by denying these claims they are generating more hype than they would by flat out saying "oh yeah, that's what it is" and then putting an end to the buzz because everyone will just wait until the annoucement is made with far less anticipation.

If I had to guess at what they are pulling, given the theme of the games, is that they are denying the existance of the upcoming game/annoucement, just like the goverment would deny the ops. the game is based on, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Also if we're looking at a spin off game, they could technically be telling the truth. You know, a CoD game, set in the CoD universe, but not actually called "Call Of Duty".

It could also be a phrank as well by some bored fanboys, I mean it's not expensive to make dogtags and such, plenty of people offer the service. Buy a few dozen of those as custom jobs, set up a site, and pay some postage to send them to the media, massive lulz ensues from trolling one of the biggest game fan bases out there.

We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I.
Oh I would say that it would be a perfect build up to a Rick Roll.

I'm curious to know who in the media was tagged.

Wednesday... 7 a.m. (PST)...

EDIT: It just dawned on me:

"Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet.
Is that code for now now?

Modern Warfare 3 might not be revealed soon after all.

When media outlets were sent dog tags that led them to a Call of Duty [http://www.findmakarov.com/] almost assuredly meant a Modern Warfare 3 announcement was incoming. According to Activision, all this dog tag, teaser website nonsense is just a hoax.

An Activision spokesperson told VG247 that findmakarov.com, which refers to Modern Warfare [http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Modern-Warfare-Xbox-360/dp/B00269QLI8] foe Vladimir Makarov, doesn't have anything to do with Call of Duty. Huh?

"There seems to be a great deal of speculation about the next Call of Duty project," the spokesperson said. "Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet. Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax."

The spokesperson also said that Activision has no plans to unveil any kind of new game when the countdown clock ends. So, while Activision allegedly sent out Modern Warfare dog tags, and set up a Modern Warfare countdown site whose timer coincides with the 2011 Game Developer's Conference, Activision claims it all means nothing.

Go figure. Either Activision is lying, or we'll get a very special surprise when the timer is up.

Oh please. Call of Duty is so amazingly lucrative that yearly "exploitable" installments are inevitable. It would be far more shocking if Activision DIDN'T milk their strongest cash-cow this year.

I pray we get to see Soap and price again.

And yes, I do believe Ghost somehow survived with hideous burns now under a new badass mask :3
Spoilers are there for a reason!
The only ones who don't know about that kinda thing are people like me... who have no intent to ever play it... :p
Less suprising than you think (about the spoiler) Ghost has survived being buried alive and being shot many, MANY times. Heck, I wanna see Ghost pull a Deadpool and survive like he did at the end of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
