I have worked with Activision and they make me sick, there like the MTV of games releasing
mediocre games for the masses while pretending to be gamers, there nothing but suits.

Well in the end it is a result of taking capitalism to an extreme. Passion does not matter, nothing matters aside from the amount of wealth produced...
Yeah... but in the end, isn't it up to us, the consumers, to decide what we spend our money on? If wave after wave of sequels and spin-offs with repetitive gameplay succeeds, it's because enough people buy into the concept.

But considering this, I think that a change is slowly but surely coming to the videogame world. It seems that people are starting to get sick off the "more of the same" type of games, and independent developers are beginning to get more attention for their innovative gameplay.
In Japan they have something called "knowledge management". One of the innovative things they are doing is that executives take a week or two to work at the lowest levels of the organisation to find out the details of the business they are in. Hospital managers changing diapers of old patients, Insurance CEO's picking up the phone to give basic help to clients.

Yes Kotick might up the price and cut costs and yes he might make more (or less) money and yes it's him that is held accountable: but I don't want starcraft to suck. I rather have them make a good game and pay good money for it than having them make a sub-good game and pay good money for it. I'll still buy it (yes all three), but a friend who's only marginally interested in starcraft might skip it for the lack of lan.

That's why criticism is leveled at Kotick for not picking up a controller and he could learn a lot from japanese business practices. In all likelyhood his actions will increase short term income for activision, hurt their long term income and hurt the long term value of blizzard and their franchises.

Kicking off a development team and then calling their new game a cheap knockoff: Oh jeez, really? That's what they're good at. They were working for you. Now they're competing with you. Man, this guy is not so good at making friends.

(Although admittedly I don't really know. I'd be curious to meet him personally or see an interview)
