I assume this economic situation we're in is effecting people with loans and debts and stuff... right?
Cuz personally it hasn't done me any harm. Granted I live in Australia which is supposedly doing better than most at avoiding recession and whatnot, but seriously, the worst that's happened to me is I got 2-3 hours cut back from work.
I work part-time in retail, 25 hours a week. I share rent on a house (3 bedrooms) with my girlfriend. However she has been unable to work for the last few weeks (and the next 3-4) so I've been sparing her from having to contribute as much (though admittedly her dad is helping her out).
With the savings I've got now, I could go buy all three consoles and a good PC, almost all the games I'd want (though I am a fussy gamer) and still have money for candy and then some. I don't come from a rich family, I wouldn't take money from any family members even if I did. I won't go as far to say I am recession proof, but it certainly seems to be taking ages to do me any damage.
I'm not saying all this to brag, I just hate all the fuss made over the economy. It seem like a huge self fulfilling prophecy to me:
-the media reports it
-so people stop buying stuff
-companies sack people to cover loss of profit (even though they're likely making shitloads anyway)
-and so the people who got layed off stop buying stuff
-media reports how many people lost their jobs
-cycle continues
There must be more to it than this, but the example of what's happening that I've given above would hardly be helping matters.

Kotick has pretty much lost any sort of impact on my opinions when the idiot came out with that statement about not having any IP's that can't produce an annual sequel. Adding this idiotic lawsuit against Double Fine (notice that they don't go after EA, which has more money and better lawyers than Activision) gives me a picture of a corporate bean counter with no real concern for the industry. It's a shame Activision now owns Blizzard and WoW. They pretty much can't go bankrupt now, no matter how badly the screw up any of their other gaming franchises.

Sony and Microsoft are loosing enough money per console as it is, doubt they'll go lower any time soon (especially Microsoft, since they dropped already). Ofcourse, I still want a price drop. Especially the PS3, since I rrrrreeaaaaally want that, but there won't be much money left after I purchase a shiny HD tv.
