"What's in a name? That which we call a ros- etc. etc.

I.E. this means nothing really if it's entirely staffed by new people.
But hey, maybe it's being helmed by absolute geniuses who will revolutionize the industry for all we know.

So does that mean a new wave of mass produced mediocre adventure titles with the rare gem in there to keep people buying the rest? Yaaaay...? Granted, I was always a Lucasarts man myself.

Ok, so Activision Blizzard are bringing back an old well-loved brand name, and logo.

This means nothing until we find out what they're going to do with it. Does this mean more Space Quest games? the return of SWAT? or just something meh with the old name on it.

Developer/Publisher names mean nothing on their own these days. On an unrelated note, anyone remember Origin Systems who made the Ultima series, and Wing Commander among other things? Everyone LOVED what EA did with the Origin name when they resurrected it...

Unfortunately, when Sierra was originally shut down many years ago, they forgot to pick up a seemingly insignificant item in the corner of the room. Said item would turn out to be necessary in the present day for the resurrection of Sierra, and as a result the process cannot be completed.
So you played Gold Rush too then.

Lets completely ignore that a dev team, the games and everything the make is made of and by the developer themselves and not the name of the dev team.
I don't see why anyone would be hyped or have hope for this in any way. Might as well get hyped for EA.

It's just a name and without the original people behind it, it has no meaning or reputation attached to it.

I'll be very surprised if this new Sierra actually start making AGs again.

I get the feeling people are going to be disappointed. Too much of their catalog is split off and way too much of it also hasn't aged well. Plus considering Acti has a bad history of driving franchises into the ground I doubt anything made by a Sierra successor is going to last long.

Well, I'd definitely like to see some of the old Sierra IPs come back. Though I'd much prefer they weren't the often illogical point and click (or text command I suppose) pixel hunts they used to be.

Why do I suspect this is just a ploy to gauge the value of Sierra's mothballed IPs, based on consumer response?
Oh right, because Activision went out of their way to run Sierra's projects into the ground (when they weren't selling IP off).

Quest for Glory, FPRPG with open world Gloriana. And dragons are rare and destructive death machines that take kingdoms to down and destroy... plus Baba Yaga, Skull and the Dancing hut, Erasmus and Fenris (rootin tootin Erasmus!!) Erana... I can go on, but the QFG series is so lore-rich and ripe for the picking. Mordavia, Spielburg, Silmaria, Shapeir and Tarna are great locations and full of awesome...
But the greatest thing of all, no RPG has ever before or since featured the greatest lockpicking challenge of all... Picking your nose... and yes it increased your skill.

Am I the only one here who realizes that it's just a name?

Studios don't create games. PEOPLE do. Everyone within Sierra have moved on. This is just a cheap cash-in to regain popularity.

Jesus people.

How exactly does this mean anything? Everyone who was a part of Sierra Entertainment is gone and has moved on. You bring back a studio you destroyed and prance about its hollowed out corpse and that is supposed to make everyone buy the games? It is the people that make a development studio, not the name. That is something you'd think people would realize by now.

If they don't hire back those two guys from Andromeda... well, there is no point really.

This. Right here. And for the rights to the original two games to determined so that I can finally get them digitally somewhere.

I think the reality is: the brand is coming back. I really don't think any of the core talent is still around.

Nah, if it were Gold Rush, the game would have been unwinnable from the start because all routes had random unpreventable failure chosen when you chose 'new game'.

By attempting to play the nostalgia card, Activision has given itself a double edged sword; either it can bask in Sierra's glow or fall on the sword to a collective "meh."

But lake all cynical gamers, I'm not even holding my breadth.
