I know Ashton Kutcher gets a lot of crap about his acting, but have you watched 'The Butterfly Effect'?
I quite liked that film to be honest. I think it was the first film I saw him in, and I don't think he was that bad.

I like Keanu Reeves. I even like him as an actor sometimes. I just think his strengths all lie in only one type of acting. When he is cast for something he cannot do it just ends up looking, well, bad.
That is the case with most well known "bad" actors I think. It's not so much that they are terrible, it's that they lack the skills to play different kinds of roles. Stick them in their safe zone and they can pull it off, but don't try them with anything else.
Or in the case of Tom Cruise, as was already mentioned, he is always "Tom Cruise". The exception being Tropic Thunder, but then again he was playing a caricature more than an actual character.

And I find very few women are particularly good, Gemma Arterton appears to be flavour of the month and I don't find her very believable at all.
I find the problem tends to be that with most of the "younger" generation, they are too wooden, and can't display emotions properly. The older generation (Judie Dench, Maggie Smith and so on) can play such diverse roles that they are fantastic.
Although we were supposed to be defending them...
Okay, Kristen Stewart. She plays Bella Swan perfectly. [small][small][small][small]Because Bella Swan has the personality of a piece of cardboard.[/small][/small][/small][/small]
On a side note: Does anybody feel that television actors and actresses are in general a hell of a lot better in terms of actual ability? I think it's often the case.
