I did a search, and came up with not a whole lot. I was wondering if anyone still plays AD&D out there.

My friends played it long before I had any interest in pen and paper roll playing, so I was stuck with what they wanted to play. Which, now that I've been collecting books, I don't mind. Problem is finding people to play. I can find the occasional D&Der, but everyone play 3.X or likely 4 nowadays.

I've read the rules for 3.0, and found it to be incredibly... stupid. Trying to micromanage the game, as it were. So, I don't like it. I suppose it works ok on the computer, as I don't mind Neverwinter Nights (in fact, I kinda like that), but I find myself longing for some real roleplaying, not the "Am I flatfooted, do I get an Attack of Opportunity" nonsense. I want to have to actually step into my character and come up with great (or not so great) ideas on my own.

I had a really good DM, but as we're a bit older and involved occasionally in the real world, work and school prevented us from playing much, and then he moved to San Fran, and that sucked.

I'm not sure if this is a rant or a query. Maybe just the mind droolings of a nostalgic. Local game shops are all about boning you into the latest and "greatest", and I've zero interest in upgrading.
