I don't generally think too highly of X-Play, simply because of the overexcited manner in which they do things. Not to mention their methodology for reviewing things based on a number score of so little variance. The videos themselves only sometimes help me decide on whether or not to actually purchase a game, delving too shallow into how the game operates most of the time.

Anyways, now that I've got out of my system... I saw this one bit about Sessler's Soapbox and thought just a bit better of the X-Play host. Its just a clip of him ranting about one thing or another, but shows me that he isn't quite the giant tool that I pegged him for, albeit he still isn't nearly as charismatic as Yahtzee.

I stoped trusting x-play reviews a long time ago.
they give great review to [Insert generic title here] and horrible reviews to ones that try something new.

X play is all about hype as you would see with all the time spent on gears 2 and other big name titles. They should spend at least a bit of time on some of the indy releases.
But now I'm just ranting.

Sessler's Soapbox is a much better feature than X-Play. X-Play tends to overstay its welcome and Morgan Webb lacks the genuine charm and tongue-in-cheek attitude of Olivia Munn.

When I think G4, I think Attack of the Show, Sessler's Soapbox, and The MMO Report. Not X-Play, not anymore.

Ya, I like Sessler, but after many attempts by G4 to kill the only remaining remnants of TechTV, I've gotta say they damn near have. The reviews are shite, and I can't stand the "info-tainment" style any more.

I am fine with X-play the way it is, I think that intelligent people will eventually figure out the only opinion that really matters is there own when it comes to purchasing something. It is kind of like forum boards, would you buy a game just cause two different people that you don't know each gave a positive review of a game?

Also you would watch an entire thirty minute show that is nothing more then a series of rants? Then again he does bring up a number of good points, maybe he could be the Larry King of the gaming media.

I've never really understood why X-Play still tries to function as a video game review website in television form. There's already enough voices in the preview/review hype machine, yet the managing writers seem insistent on focusing their coverage on what anyone with an ounce of curiosity could find elsewhere. That, and their strange fascination with using their interns for slapstick humor during a segment is a little unsettling.

I see segments like this, and I picture educated round-table debates on topics important to video games and those who play them. Then I remember G4 would never put such a program on the air when they could buy old Japanese game shows instead.

I like the old Japanese game shows.

That aside though, that would be an interesting twist. Larry King of video games? Gaming tonight, inside panel discussions with your host, Adam Sessler. Tonight via satellite, our guests are Yahtzee, Will Wright, and some random guy we grabbed while he was waiting in line for Wrath of the Lich King.

Sessler is a funny and intelligent man when not in "character". I never had a problem with Morgan Web either, unlike many others for some reason. What is unfortunate is that X-play is a shadow and a mockery of what it used to be. They formatted it to be so much like Attack of the Show that I wonder if they even need it anymore. Either way, the G4/TechTV merge was a horrible thing IMO since G4 got rid of almost everything that made both channels watchable. They have deviated so far from their original purpose.

Blah, I gave up on X-Play shortly after G4 took over. Before the G4 takeover it was pretty good. The humor was slightly more on the witty side, and Adam and Morgan weren't as annoying. After the G4 takeover, the humor devolved to the level of fart jokes and celebrity cutouts spammed during reviews to the point that it isn't a review so much as a lesson in infantile humor I wouldn't have even found funny back when I was 12. In other words, watching X-Play's "humor" is like watching any movie by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

That being said, Adam and Morgan as people aren't that bad. It is just that they are required to act like flaming idiots on X-Play.

stopped trusting them after Guitar hero 4 review, cant transfer old downloads, the drum cymbols crapped out soooo baddly, and the song list was a pile of garbage. They failed to mention those things.

He has really tiny feet.

EDIT: I've been watching a ton of these videos... Prior to this, my only experience of Sessler has been Xplay and I've fairly easily disregarded him... but I gotta say... He's got my respect now.

Sessler's Soapbox = cred

If this is true why did they give boom blox for the wii a 5 out of 5?

X play was better in the old episodes but I still respect it as more or less the last remenant of the old shows. Instead of tech and video game shows we get Cops and The Man Show reruns. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with half naked girls and punks getting beat by nightsticks, but I thought that's what Spike was for.

actually he gives praise to things that ARE done differently, it's just he hates it when they try new things but in a crappy way

i personally stopped watching techtv after g4 took over, it just sucked too much, they cancelled all the good shows and/or fired the good hosts

I think all of G4's online shows are better than the channel themselves...

Sesslers Soapbox is great
MMO Report is cool
Fresh Ink is awesome

Yeah, after TechTV became G4, I stopped watching. I always liked Eyedrops, Freshgear, and even that battle robots show (forgot the title). They're all gone. But back then, when X-Play was called Extended Play, Adam was the only host. I liked him at the time. Then things started changing and the craaazy intern jokes came about(har friggin' har).
