We all dread it when a video game becomes a movie or vice versa right?
The big silver screen ruining all of our childhood memories or the smaller one missing out key points in the story.
BUT in the past there have been a few good adaptations.
Starwars comes instantly to mind. The movie spawned a few failure games however starwars battlefront was awsome.
The game tombraider made a good movie but with all movies with sequels the later failed.

So what good adaptations have you seen or played? Or would like to see be made?
Personally Im hoping for a movie based on unreal tournaments but with humour and less seriousness to it and the commentator screaming out HEADSHOT or HOLY SHIT!

I have seen no good adaptations...

Okay! Maybe Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic was good.

And even LotR:Battle For Middle Earth...

I sometimes think about what it would be like if Pixar made a Team Fortress movie.

It would suck, of course, and I can't imagine a good plot, but hmm.

I enjoyed Jedi Knight: jedi Accademy.
I found Enter the Matrix to be sort of medicore
The hitman movie wasn't bad, and the Tombraider movies were'nt worse than many other hollywood movies out there.

I think games work much better when they take a cool universe from a movie (like star wars) and use it in a game instead of making a game that follows the story of the movie.

Never played any LotR games, but i think Tolkiens Middle Earth makes for a perfect setting for a fantasy game, guess a lot of LotR online fans agree.

Warcraft has a universe that could make a good movie, but they should prolly make a story in the universe instead of trying to follow the games' (WC3 + TFT) storyline.

just a few examples

True dat. It didn't reach the genius of the games (i.e. the characters being followed by their evil past etc.) but it caught the atmosphere of the originals pretty damn well and I think it's the scariest movie ever made; I've seen a lot of those, but if you can name one that's scarier go ahead ;) I'd love to see it.

Chronicles of Riddik was good, as well as Pitch Black - but don't get me started on the second Riddick move. Haven't seen the animated one.

The Resident Evil films sucked diarrhea shit alright (edit: ESPECIALLY THE FUCKING THIRD ONE) :S well, the second one was okay - as an action film with zombies, nothing special, but entertaining. I expected something like that for the third movie, too, and boy, do I regret spending money on that ticket. They had many great ideas and just fucked everything up.

I couldn't enjoy Tomb Raider one bit but that might be because I was never a fan of the games anyways - probably just a matter of taste.

That Zone of the Enders film I liked, although I found it to be a little short. Unfortunately I haven't seen the series.

Ya, as you can tell, I skipped most shitty adaptations (RE: Extinction, I hate you), I don't know why, though. It's not like I listened to the majority of people running around because I don't care what other people say - most of it is just a matter of taste anyways.

I'm wondering how that Metal Gear film is going to turn out and I'm still waiting for the next Silent Hill movie.

Adaptations don't work becuase lets face it, movies and games are two completely different forms of art. It would be like trying to make the Mona Lisa a movie, it just doesn't translate.

I still hold Black Hawk Down PS2 to be one of the best games for online multiplayer in that generation. Fight me or whatever, but I played it for years.

Knights of the Old Republic was good because it's set a few thousand years(wookiepedia says nearly 4000) before the original trilogy. The developers had near complete freedom making the game. The second game would have been great if it wasn't shipped 75% complete.

Agree that silent hill was a good film but soz not the scariest by a long shot lol. For my fav scary movie I still would say event horizon (but it may have helped that I was drunk and thought it was gonna be a starwars type film coz of the big spaceship on the poster lol).

The 1st resi evil I quite like (only a passing resemblance to the game though tbh) and still class as one of the better game adaptations to date but the last two definately went on a nose dive. Hopefully though they wont make a 4th.

For my personal favorite though as far as game to screen adaptations go I think I'll have to go with the 1st streetfighter 2 animated movie (not to be confused with that steaming pile of cow dung that had the mussels from brussels in it)

Now for the game I would most like to see turned into a movie. For me I think that would have to be Morrowind.

Hitman was decent; it was basically a poor man's Bourne, which is practically remarkable for a videogame movie.

Treasure Planet: Battle for Procyon is my favorite licensed game to this day.

I think the main problem of movies turned video games is that you already know whats gonna happen.

I really enjoyed Aliens vs Predator 2 (apart from the boring Predator campaign) and Battle for Middle-Earth (both parts).

Uhh please stay on topic or at least tell me why I would play an old game that I've already finished when the sequel is already out?

Hm, maybe because it feels like the computer adaption of a mix of Die Hard and The Ring?
You have to admit, some of those action sequences combined with bullet time do feel very movie-ish.
