Added by strangers on Facebook?

I've been getting a lot of Facebook adds from people from my old hometown, some of whom I frankly wouldn't be able to pick out of a police lineup! I'm thinking they've probably got me confused with someone else since my last name is so common where I grew up (in my high school homeroom there were four people with my last name and none of us were related to any of the other three) and thought "Hey, I remember that name" and added me (and the effect has snowballed with all the "x mutual friends" out there).

Anyone else get added by someone on Facebook and think "who the fuck are you?" Not that I'm against having more Facebook "friends" to create the illusion of popularity (that's a hint, Escapists...) but seriously. I only know maybe 60% of them!

When I used facebook, yes. I deleted my account because I never used it and it became very obvious when I actually did that someone had written things under my name that I didn't say. Nameless things.

Never. If I can't have real popularity, I'll settle for the ersatz Internet version.

(edit: Oddly enough, it was my middle-school puppy love girlfriend I went out with from age 11-13 that started this whole damn snowball rolling when she wondered whatever happened to me these last 20 years and googled my name...and found my Civ 3 FAQ on GameFAQs, of all things!)

OT: I send em a message asking how they know me. If they give a reasonable answer or are a hot girl I accept. They are rarely hot girls

I added a guy who's kind of stalking me, he won't fucking stop, he's even telling my friend how he day dreams about me its goddamn disturbing in "love"with me, even though we met once. And now all his friends are adding me, its getting too bloody much. I don't even like him, nevermind his friends.

I have 53 waiting friend requests as of last count, there are a few strangers or people I only slightly know befriending me. Of course, I'm fairly sure I have met a good bit of them (in fact, at least a few of my Facebook friends are people I forgot about), just not that much.

I have only one person on my list that I've never actually met in person, and I only accepted them because they seemed to be pretty close to one of my best friends. Considering a recent turn of events it's fairly doubtful that I'll be meeting this person anytime soon but I probably won't remove them either.

On the other hand I have denied two requests from people I didn't know that were just looking for neighbors in their facebook games.

I changed my last name to the phonetic spelling and changed my picture to something other than myself just so random people from high school wouldn't add me. So far, it has worked. I'm not even sure why I still have a facebook. I have only used it once in the past 6 months to talk to a guy who used to be on my baseball team.

I've had a few I didn't recognise; but we had 35-40 mutual friends from high school, and their schools were listed as the same as me, so I just went with it. We never chat anyway, so no harm done...

I got added once by a guy who I used to bully and take his lunch money when we were kids! To say it was unexpected is putting it mildly---I made that kid's life a living hell for three solid years!

I made my facebook account just this sunday, and already have a load of friend requests from people I know, but never liked. I don't accept them.

Probably going to delete the account soon - I hate it already.
