Addicted to the Escapist?

A light-hearted curiosity on my part, I know it's not 100% accurate but I found myself reading Quantcast's statistics [http://www.quantcast.com/escapistmagazine.com] for escapistmagazine.com and was faintly intrigued by its claim that 2% of the readership account for 39% of the site's hits (it calls these 2% "addicts"). So I just wondered if you think you fall within that 98th percentile, and whether you consider yourself an addict.

<- It says here I've only been a member for 12 days, but it feels like I've thrown away months here already! I'd been enjoying ZP for some time, and always been drawn to the "what's new" box that shows the threads with the most recent posts, and sometimes felt maybe I had something to contribute on one or two of them, but it was never enough for me to validate registering an account. That was until Unskippable started up, and I discovered the awesomeness of URealms and eventually a few topics surfaced at around the same time where I thought my contributions would be worth the effort of registering, and now these forums are my go-to place when bored, which is increasingly often for some reason...

Also, notice how the activity graph peaks every Wednesday? Heh. I'm always perplexed at how much Yahtzee-hate I see around here, when his videos are basically the only reason anyone ever comes here ;) Yeah you heard what I said. I said it. You guys are like the alt.digitiser regulars hating on Digitiser, and there's a gaming reference I don't expect many people to get! Ah well, maybe it's just the Yin and Yang of fanboys and haters.

Some more "facts": 44% of Escapanoids are parents. 31% of Escapanoids have salaries over $100k. Do you think this is just Quantcast's system getting confused when little Jonny uses his parents' internet connection?

Wow, the site has a 10.5x affinity for 'Gaming Information'! That's a real surprise...
Is anyone else scared by the amount of information on there?

LaCoil Rant

I would like to extend a hand of welcome to you, but with a statement attached.

ZP is not the only reason people come here. Far from it. While many originally found the Escapist due to Zero Punctuation, we have moved beyond that and it much lower on a list of reasons to be around. For myself, this is true, as I was introduced to ZP by my brother many moons ago, then found the articles interesting, then found the forums. The last bit is my main reason for staying, with the first long having sunk below the murky waters of willpower.

Hell, I've entirely forgotten to watch the last two weeks of them. Oh, the tragedy.

This is not a site of ZP fans. The only reason that peaks on Wednesdays is because he has on average a million views, if memory serves. That's a tad more than are regular users on the forums. The Escapist was here before ZP. The Escapist will remain long after ZP has wilted and died.

I can only plead ignorance on your behalf in this, as you are new, and probably aren't aware of the more subtle taboos on the site. Stating that we only come here for ZP is one of them, and congratulations for putting your foot in it.

I hope you have a pleasant stay.

Optionally, a spike in Escapist traffic every Wednesday would suggest that individuals are showing up exclusively far more often than any other day of the week. This would suggest that there are members who come only on Wednesday. Meaning they leave and don't come back until the following Wednesday. Any opinion to the contrary during days that are not Wednesday are a clear enough sign that there are people here that come for reasons other than Yahtzee. About six days a week worth of the aforementioned other reasons.

I am very likely a "2% readership" considering I'm habitually on this site, for any number of things (such as the articles, the videos, the editorials, and hell, the forums). Although I wouldn't say I'm addicted.

Data from site: "Also Searched for Zero Punctuation 2273.4x".

I think it is indeed the reason most people come here; though I'll agree that it's not the reason most people stay.

My point was more that the forum people are not a bunch of ZPtards. That's the source of rancour, the immediate assumption that because we are here, we are fans of Yahtzee. A similar comment was made in one of the ZP threads in response to a Nuke Lassic rant about the detriment of the series. I believe the exact words were "If you don't like Zero Punctuation, get off the site." A bunch of older users went on in and politely pointed out his mistake, including the suggestion that there are other forum sections.

Kind of the 'we are the 2% and are proud of it'? *shudder* That there are actually people who believe that though... surely a glance at the fora would tell them otherwise?

ZP certainly accounts for a large chunk of the traffic but i do load the Escapist around 20 times a day. I was personally drawn to The Escapist after seeing an imitation ZP video on the show Pure Pwnage. Since making an account i have grown to love everyone in these forums and their crazy sense of humor.

I'm certainly addicted to this site. Its like my myspace.
Same, I check daily, and on weekends usually have it open all day.The annoying thing is that there's not that many (to me at least) interesting threads about.

But it's still like crack for me.

I came for ZP but stayed for the forums.

I am totally in the 2%

I love this place and will have a hard time leaving, its a nice place with nice people. Unlike everywhere else on the internet.

I would also like to add that I am not a ZP fan. Every few months I watch reviews of games that intrest me but I don't find him funny anymore. ZP hasn't made me laught out loud for a while, unlike other, better shows on the site like Unskippable and Doomsday Arcade.

12. Profit!

Oh yes.

Actually that is not a bad idea. Maybe I can set up Escapists Anonymous.

Thanks for the welcome. I eagerly await the day when I have become aware of some more of the subtle taboos and running jokes that exist here, but I can only plead lack of sarcasm-awareness on your behalf ;)

But the ZP-related portion of my OP seems to have served the purpose of sort of "mapping out" this particular taboo for me, testing the boundaries so to speak. Not that that was my intention. I was just mildly amused that many people seemed to be obliged to be ZP haters to balance out the number of ZP fanboys. Still waiting for someone from the UK to say "OMG I remember Digitiser!"

This is why I rarely accept cookies, or only accept them on a per-session basis. No targeted advertisement for me, sonny.

I wouldn't call myself addicted, but I guess I am an avid user. It's one of my five homepages.

Mhmm, no. This place is not an addiction. Anime High School is an addiction. This place is a gas station on the highway.
