Admiration or bitterness?

It depends on the person. An asshole former friend of mine inherited some money and started talking about all the stuff he had bought, but would still bum cigarettes and ask other people to buy him beer saying he never had money on hand or had forgotten his wallet. Then over beers he would talk about his new wall-sized tv or girlfriends diamon necklace. I got bitter, but more because he was a dick about it.

I don't generally mind when people are better off than I am, because I have enough to get through my daily life and that's what matters to me. But money isn't all there is in the world.

A different friend of mine is a proper gentleman and when I met him years ago, I greatly admired him. I've learned from him and never resented him for being awesome, because he's also a really nice guy.

TL;DR: It really does depend on the person and how they're 'better' than me.

Sheer, fucking relief. I accept that I am at the bottom of the rung. I am an unremarkable man now, and I dare say I'll die an unremarkable man. The biggest thing I contribute to my country is my tax dollars so thank fuck there are better men and women than me.

I have a teacher, who everybody in my class loves, and I really hate him. To be honest, the real reason I hate him is simply because everybody else seems to think he's so brilliant. However, there are people in my life that I really look up to and admire for their skills.

I seem to feel jealous of people that are similar to me. That teacher is similar to me in some ways, so in a way it's as if I could be like him, but I'm not, which is what causes a lot of my dislike. However, the people admire are often totally unlike me in many ways, so I don't really compare myself to them, so I feel admiration, instead of jealousy.

The only people I am envious of are the filthy rich, not for who they are or how they attained their wealth, just because they don't have to work.

Beyond that I don't really care. I don't subscribe to the consensus view of what success is, and I don't care about jobs and education. I don't view anyone as being better than me and the idea of human hierarchy pretty much disgusts me.

Needless to say, I don't play well with employment and generally what is expected of me. I'm still trying to carve myself a niche.

When someone has a skill that I want, it's admiration towards them and their work and bitterness towards my inability to measure up.

Helps drive me to get better.

People who have skills I don't desire, it's mainly admiration.

Sometimes it's inspiring, sometimes depressing; depends a lot on my own mood / perspective.

It's worth keeping in mind that very few people have TRULY lead a 'charmed life' and most talent and success comes after working your ass off and getting a fortunate roll. It's also worth considering if you really success modeled just like theirs... It's usually a lot of pressure and attention... Personally, I've never wanted to be a celebrity or have everyone combing over what I do waiting for me to fuck up (which everyone will eventually).

I guess I sorta have a complex but I can't stand anyone whos to proud of themselves if I can tell sombody feels there better than me I have a hard time liking them I can't stand being looked down on or thought of as less I can't help it I guess thats why I have a hard time liking my bosses
