Seriously, no annoying bloody ads at the start of videos was one of the things that sets escapist apart. Now they've joined the rest of the shit heap of video streaming sites around the net.

The Escapist needs to make money. They have to pay everyone who writes reviews, makes videos, writes about current topics and the people who run the website. They have to make money some how and allowing adds on a popular site makes a lot of money. I don't grudge any websites for having adds because people need to be paid and the website need money to keep running. If the Escapist stopped making money they wouldn't excist so stop complaining.

This. The Escapist is a business, they need revenue streams to survive and ads are one of them.

I hear this about YouTube, people whine when YouTube used to be ad free 'back in the day'. Yeah, they could afford to be ad free back then, Facebook was exactly the same. But one day they need to think "we really could do to make money off this or else the service is going to tank" and so they put in ads. You may as well complain to every TV station ever for putting ads in there (apart from the BBC, who are carried by the UK taxpayer).

Ugh, as you can tell, this issue annoys me because it shouldn't be one.

The Ecapist gives us tons of cool stuff for free. They have to amke money somehow. If you don't want the ads, there's always the option to become a Publisher's Club member.

Yeah, the ads are annoying, but for what the Escapist gives me in return, I can put up with them.

I think it's funny how the Army advertises here. Y'know, considering that this is a gaming site, and I'd bet that most people (e.g.: me) don't really like strenuous physical activity. Not really hitting the target demographic right there.

You do realise that The Escapist needs money to run, to pay for all the wonderful stuff we get here? Unfortunately, it doesn't run on the hopes and dreams of it's user-base. It's either through ads or the Pub Club membership.

The only ad that ever annoyed me was the one for Jimquisition, only because it made the videos load twice. The harsh reality my friend is they don't do their jobs for fun (OK maybe a few of them do), they need to make money, ads before videos is one of the best ways to make money online.
