It's another Adventure Time discussion! This time focusing the latest crack-shipping induced episode:
All The Little People was a great episode, but holy crap! Finn forcibly shipping and messing with the little chars felt really really awkward and disturbing. My reaction was the same as Jake's almost throughout. Pen Ward pretty much caused a huge ship war with this one. I guess the lesson here is pretty much playing God is bad and has its consequences or that they're aware of shipping and showing the ridiculousness of it all and discourage it. Also, Marceline licking Peppermint Butler to death...whoa.

Now imagine if MLPFiM did something like this...Not to mention with it being a toyline, this episode synopsis is almost perfect for it...I shudder to think.

So what do you think of the episode?

I thought it was great, a really interesting and amusing episode. Turtle Princess spanking that guy was hilarious.

This episode was messed up man, but that is why I love it. Adventure Time continues to be awesome like usual. I love the whole Playing God Is Bad undertone going on.

It was all a recursive delusion of Magic Man. 1:25 Magic Man says he's not coming back...exactly what Finn says @ 10:24.

Yeah, I felt uncomfortable throughout the entire episode.

The heck was up with the '16 weeks later' time card, though? It was random and just raises all sorts of questions.

Wasn't it just to show how obsessed Finn was with playing with the little people?

I will be very honest here, I wanted to start watching this Cartoon show at some point, but I just could do it cause of many things I have also to do consuming my time [work......mostly work....].
I Know already it is a good show, but it is SO good to start looking at it?

So in another word with that episode, Finn is a shipper! Also didn't it feel like Finn was playing The Sim abit since those mini character speak giberish like The Sim and not too bother being picked up and placed by Finn.

I want to know why Magic Man gave it to Finn but I'm guessing he was just trolling (also while the title still show he was the one who made the toys but where did he get that clay thing from).

Yeah, but since it was to denote how long it took for Jake to return, it kind of makes Jake seem like a jerk.

More than is usual.

Yes. I don't think there's much more to say. They're only 10 minutes long each, but it's addictive so you can end up spending ages watching them all. It took until the second series for me to really get into it, but it's definitely worth it. I just love how the universe seems completely random but also carefully constructed at the same time.

This term you use, "shipping," I am not familiar with it.

As an adult, shipping to me means to load up a truck or vessel, and move goods long distances for profit. Using that description, it seems that Jake and Finn are running a sex slavery ring, and I would love to see that, if just for the way the supposed heroes are mixed up in some dirty shit, and how they handle that.

So, I love Adventure Time, but the only time I watch it is when it is on as a rerun during the day with my stepson. I have adult oriented shows that I watch during the week at night, "Last Resort" and "Bones" being my two favorites, but my girlfriend also doesn't like Adventure Time, so when she is home, we don't watch it. I have not seen the new episode, and since your link is broken, your description leaves me with absolutely nothing to go on as a realistic basis to decide how I feel about the episode. Some of the episodes have obviously been more adult oriented in the past, but the kids don't understand the subtlety the way I do, so I have no problem with it.

Vid's working again. Also, as for shipping, just check this out: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/shipping

I think you are blowing it out of proportion. He wasn't doing anything wrong, he just was using those toys to bring his thought experiments to life, much as a scientist would propose a hypothesis and then test it via experiment. Also, shipping is an incorrect term for this. If you or I had done this in story form, it would have been shipping (A term I so loathe that just typing it threatens to set my keyboard aflame), but for him, the people were very real, and he just wanted to see what would happen in a given set of circumstances. The problem is, he used what turned out to be very real people in what he thought was only a thought experiment, and that just never goes well for anyone.

He played with them like toys at first, and then realized that his actions were turning out to have real consequences for his "Toys," and like the hero he is, he immediately set out to fix the problem, not realizing (as most people do not) that by interfering, he was just making the whole situation worse. This is actually a very valuable life lesson, and one that some people never learn. I have made this mistake in my own life, and if my kids can watch this show and learn the lesson, that makes them smarter than I am, and that bodes well for their futures.

That said, a lot of the shows they do, taken out of context, can seem like they are acid induced trips, but watching from the beginning, you will realize that the shows are set-pieces that lead you to a logical conclusion, intended to teach a valuable life lesson. Sure, some of those conclusions are very involved and circuitous in the journey, but the main job of this show is to entertain, so I gladly forgive that in favor of seeing the morals and standards I am trying to teach my kids reinforced by the cartoons they watch.
