Advertisements

I realize that this site needs paid advertisements in order to provide content, but I would like to make a small request/suggestion.

Please either vary the commercials more, or get rid of the annoying-as-hell Slim-Jim advert. There are plenty of products - food, drink, or otherwise - that gamers are interested in, many of which have commercials that don't make gamers want to stab at their inner ears with toothpicks and click to another screen.

Or...

Rather than have a commercial before -every- video, monitor the amount of videos and commercials viewed and stop with the adverts after a person watches a certain amount of them within a 24 hour period. This would be lovely for those of us trying to catch up on back episodes of Zero Punctuation, Game Dogs, et al.

I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'm pretty certain it can't be that bad - certainly not as bad as the fuck-annoying Blip.tv advert for Bing which used to play before every video.

So, you know, the Escapists needs money and we are not really paying them for their content. The least we can do is watch some adverts.

Still, your second idea is pretty valid, especially considering that the videos on this site are usually pretty short.

We had a thread about the exact same thing not too long ago, the irritating Slim Jim advertisements.

What I think about them?

It's like 30 seconds before a 4 and a half minute video. I personally don't mind it, especially if every time we watch it, the Escapist gets paid. After all, they have to pay all their employee's salary, plus the servers to host the website, bandwith, so forth and so on. And with the exception of the Publisher's Club, we Escapee's get all that wonderful content for free.

So, while you're waiting on that video to load, hit the mute button on the ad, head over to Youtube or Facebook, troll someone there, come back, and your video's loaded up and ready to go. It's a simple answer to a simple problem.

I'm glad I got in the Publisher's Club back when they had the grand debut offer of 10 bucks. But still, I think 20 bucks is a good offer for a year of high def videos, no ads, along with the other perks the club offers.

Yes please, Slim Jims are gross. And Edge is a jackass and a crappy actor. I understand that they need money so I really have no problem with it but the Slim Jim one is annoying.

People actually pay for the same advertisement to be played a bazillion times. It's a marketing thing.

You guys don't seem to understand, they're deliberately picking the most annoying ads possible in order to get you to cave in and spend the twenty bucks for the membership.

I'm only about 60% broken, but only because I don't actually watch many of the vids.

But really, the membership is worth it. 20 dollars for HD videos with no ads, an exclusive forum, and those "Things About Stuff". Plus a custom title.

i have no clue what you mean by slim jim ads and to be honest i don't know what it is.
I get the odd ad for discounts on other sites that the escapist is doing for the publisher's club other than that NOPE!

Eh, the adds can be a bit annoying but at the most they're like 30 seconds long. I just mute them, go to another tab, then come back after they're done. They're annoying but I can live with them. No big deal.

I thought it was doing that? There was a day or so when I got adverts before every video, and since then I've had none. Since I'd been offline for about six months I watched a lot of videos that day, and I assumed I'd used up my advertisement quota.

Maybe I'm just broken, and by mentioning this I'm going to be inundated with adverts for shitty movies. Curses!

Some people have barely enough to survive week-to-week.

Saving a dollar a week goes a long way.
