So, I was going with my old man to his birthday dinner tonight, and as we're driving the down the turnpike, well I say, "we're driving", but he was the one driving, I see a billboard for L4D, which struck me as rather odd. Why do you ask? You don't see games being advertised on TV that often, but I don't think I've ever seen a game advertised on a billboard before. Pretty much the only place they'll be advertised is in gaming magazines, game retailers, and the review section of gamespot.

TV adverts make sense, you get them played once every twenty minutes or so, to a wide number of people. It doesn't matter where they are, so long as they get whatever channel you're advertising on, they'll get the message, regardless of their location. However, a billboard means you've only go a few for someone to see the sign, get interested, remember the information on it, and not cause a car crash, never mind that it's only relevant to that particular bit of highway. Admittedly, it's a good billboard. It's nothing but the cover of the game box, with the hand, "Left 4 Dead", and "http://www.left4dead.com", with the usual set of logos and copyright information at the bottom of the billboard.

Now then, while I've not seen that many adverts for games on TV or billboards, have any of you? Has a random advert gotten you interested in a game? Excluding, of course, the above mentioned, how often do you see games advertised?

In my local shopping centre right in the middle is a giant scrowling Niko Belic poster (and i mean giant). It is more intimidating than effective advertising. GTA games are the only ones i realy see getting advertised in Australia as well as the occasional Wii game and LBP was advertised a bit. Xbox tend to do general Xbox ads not for specific games.
