I did a search for a topic on this and couldn't find one, so i thought i'd start one. If i'm wrong delete it and pm me the link plz :)

Anyways, firey rage consumed me today after the buggy advert system thats been plauging 1.6 and cz seemed to become stable and now my scoreboard and maps are constantly telling me that the orange box is the way to go. Problem is i'm well aware of how spanktastic the orange box is, cos i got it. Why do they feel the need to advertise in games that they do nothing towards anymore?

I was trying to express outrage on the steam forums but seems i no longer have a forum account due to lack of use. But a lot of the posts on there have been "hahahahahahahahaha noobs, buy a decent computer and then you won't have to play shitey old games" or "why shouldn't they try to make money out of games they shouldn't have to work on". End of the day source is a childs game. I still defy anyone to tell me that the recoil isn't like firing an automatic bb gun, cos seriously, you can hit people across aztec in the face 5 or 6 times with a mac 10. The game itself isn't all that pretty either for the source engine. The models look like something lives inside em, and the movemnt of the actual character feels jerky and unresponsive.

Secondly, they do no work on these old games. This is the first update for most of them in years. And its simply to add adverts, which no-one wants, and has turned customers away. The easy way would be to reward owners of said box with a ad free gaming experience. GRRRR!!!!

Anyways i like to rant, so to summerise, i don't want adverts in my game, and if they are going to be there, most games do it subtley, like a billboard that blends in. And also stop advertising games i already own. If new games were as enjoyable as the old ones, we would play them. Theres hardly anyone who ownes cs 1.6 that doesn't own source, we get it, its new, but its also shite.

I don't like adverts in my games either; Counterstrike is a massively overrated game and is now as old as the world... or something very old. Advertisements are ok in Rainbow Six, Ubisoft tend to put them in as posters or billboards and things like that, which doesn't distract you from the game.

The developer is entitled to advertise in their own games, but it's just shameful and they should carry out a proper ad-campaign.

i think adverts are ok where they are apropriate, giant bilboards and signs in storefornts can have adverts for actual stuff heck they can even put code in the game update the ads whenever they feel like, makes the game more real, but ads in places that don't belong will make me stop buying games, i will swear off video games if they incorporate pop ups and other jack ass forms of advertising, though i have to admit whenever i see ads for those "truth" people i'd give anything to have a rocket launcher or assault rifle. my one act of guaranteed violence in this life is that if i ever see that ugly guy from the whadafuxup commercials, i will brutally murder him with my bare hands if i have to.

advertising in general gets on my nerves alot and if i start seeing them show up in things like connan or other sword and sworcery kind of things i will get verry pissed, the first time a coke ad apears in a lord of the rings game i march on washington.

but as i said, in game cities where you'd expect ads it's ok to use real ads and i understand it's a good way to maybe ad some extra cash to game but they absolutley have to be kind of out of the way rather than in our face all the time, as i say, the first time it interferes with my gameplay i'll destroy someone.

2142 has adverts for "Intel Dual-Core Processors" on giant bill-boards on most of the levels. It's a little annoying as I sit there thinking "Wait a minute, it's over one hundred years in the future, how have Intel not developed something like a Penta(five)-Core processor?" It just reminds me that I'm playing a game by killing the immersion, a disappointing "addition" to any game.
