Advice for Borderlands 2?

So I recently started playing BL2 and so far I'm a little torn by it. On one hand it's funny as hell and on the other it's got shitty co-op integration.

Basically my problem is that I am a sniper. I'm good with a sniper rifle and I can do the most damage and good for my team if I stay back and get critical shots. The issue is, of course, that I then have to catch up to my team by which point they've taken all the good loot. So essentially, I'm really helping them by sniping and they don't see fit to be considerate and leave me something good to pick up.

Aside from just telling me to join the fray with a shotgun, have any advice? These are people I know in real life so I don't want to make a big whiny deal out of it.

Capcha: "face the music" lol

I'm going to guess you play Zer0.

Other than politely asking your "friends" to leave some loot for you, (perhaps that shiny new sniper rifle they just found) I'm not sure what to tell you. Are you sure you're not playing with random people? Seems to me like all you would have to do is let them know that you would like new guns too.

Have you tried to, I don't know, talk with them?
It's a game where the loot is very important, it's not like you're whining about something stupid.

Yeah this is strange to me; with our group we always call out whatever we find to see if anyone else needs it first.

Stop playing with random people and get some friends. Oh, wait they're your friends already. Why can't you talk to them, and have them understand that you won't be able to snipe/help as effectively if they don't give you your share of the loot? Why is that even a thing that needs explaining?

Exactly this. Usually everyone is looking for certain things, some people want SMGs, some want shotguns, etc. I'm guessing that the TC is the only one in the group looking for sniper rifles. If your playing with friends and not randoms, that's how it should be done. When my friends and I take down a boss, we all look over the loot and if there's something someone really wants, they will ask if anyone else wants that as well. I don't think we've ever had a situation where we find something really awesome that literally everyone wants, this from playing both games together as well. Plus, it's easy to duplicate items, just drop it and quit the game.

I used to play Diablo 2 with friends. Not only did we delight in trying to screw each other over on loot, we often set up elaborate traps to get people killed whenever they ported back from town and/or stopped to dig in their bags for a moment.

Depending on how whimsical your friends' sense of humor is, they can be 100 times worse than any stranger.

Yes, I play as Zero.

I have asked them to leave me stuff but they don't really listen. I think they just get so into the frantic nature of it all they forget. I doubt they do it jsut to be mean. That's why I posted this, to see if anyone had ideas on how to get the loot before them.

I think having one of each thing is just bad game design for a co-op focused game like this. I'm sure somewhere there are trolls and griefers who just join games to take people's stuff and then leave.

Then, quite frankly, you need to tell your friends that their behavior is detrimental to your enjoyment of the game, and you aren't enjoying yourself when they do that. If they really want you to be a part of the group, they'll knock it off as soon as you let them know quite firmly.

Believe me, I have two roommates that do the same thing when we play. It's not fun when people don't let you have loot.

Especially in a game like Borderlands.

Well, your primary problem is that your friends are being dicks if they aren't leaving you any loot.
If they refuse to give you anything to at least keep pace, then...well, I suggest finding new friends if you're going to party up.

Sounds like you just need to convince your dick friends to let you have some of the gubbins.

Remind them that the awesome sniper support is going to get real shitty real fast unless they let you have a rifle or two.

If that doesn't work, consider respecing for melee. From what I've heard, Zer0 can deal out ridiculous amounts of murder with that sword.

You can also join online groups just for co-op play. I'm with the Borderlands 2 the Complete Picture facebook group. We help each other out with everything from power leveling, duplicating weapons, and general discussions and boards. Join a group based around co-op play that would share loot with each other would be my suggestion. It also helps to join groups with adults who play rather than the ten year olds that plague the multiplayer spaces.

Really as a sniper you don't need...nor should you even be, very far away from combat. Only do that to open up combat and draw enemies towards the group. If....like it sounds like is happening, your friends are just charging in....then charge in along with them. Use deception to make sure enemies don't charge you...and line up your shots.

As a sniper specialist you hopefully have bore...which can be used with a sniper rifle to take out multiple enemies quickly. You can also snipe from close range much faster/easier.....taking out many enemies in 1 shot. That actually means you can loot easier then your friends who may take longer to kill.

Using a shotgune from deception is of course yet another way to deal with things, but you don't have to do that if you prefer sniper rifles. I have one of each character (on both platforms...ps3 and pc)....and I mainly use sniper rifles on my Zero.

I'd only go for the very long distance shots if your solo. In a team, move in with everyone else. The other characters will keep the enemies off you, especially if you use deception as well.

Finally, as has been mentioned, communication is key if your playing with friends. Tell them what your looking for..and hopefully they can just nab it for you..then pass it one when combat is over. It sounds like your the only zero..and probably the only char that rely's on sniper rifles much..so it can't be that hard to let them know you want zero class mods and any good sniper rifles that drop.

My advice? Either spec for B0re and take a shotgun, preferably a Hyperion, and get in the fray, or respec for melee and, use a +50% melee shotgun. The pistol Law from what's-her-face is +100% damage, and I was using the playthrough 1 Law up until I killed her on playthrough 2, and swapped for the pt2 Law. But seriously, B0re is ridiculously awesome, and even more so up close with a shotgun. Try farming up a Maggie and use that with B0re? Did I mention B0re?

I've met so many awesome people through steam's co-op. Random people I've met within 15 minutes have given me ALL the orange guns just because they had extras. Then I didn't have to farm any of the bosses which was awesome. But as for playing as Zero, don't be afraid to get in the fray with a sniper rifle. You can headshot from point blank, and then use deception to get out of the fray if you think you're in trouble. Shields do regenerate for a purpose.

Talk to them and ask them to leave you some shinies, since you're actually playing. Use the ingame chat. Remind them.

If that doesn't work, start either TPKing via barrels/fuel tanks until they get the message, or get the Law handgun and the Order shield and respec into Bloodshed, then Cunning/Bloodshed when you're over 35. A Bloodshed build with a Law/Order setup is pretty much a near-unstoppable reaper.

Seriously, tho. Friends don't ninjaloot friends' gear.

Well, I'd suggest you talk to your friends some more, but other than that, you could put some points into zer0's close combat tree. Can't remember what it's called, but you'll know it by the focus on your katana and your kill skill. That way you can sneak in when you feel like it.

If they're people you know just explain the situation to them.
Work under a "Dibs" system.
As the sniper you have first dibs on all sniper rifles. Gunzerker gets first dibs on any Assault Rifles, Commando gets second dibs if the Gunzerker passes their dibs. Siren gets first dibs on anything elemental.
If nobody wants them, they get sold, and money can be divvied later to try and be even.
