Hi there,

My current laptop (a dell 1545 - I know, I know...) is in the process of dying a very slow death, so I'm considering buying a new laptop towards Christmas.

What I'd ideally need is a laptop that can run your average pc games (I play Minecraft, a bit of LoL every now and again, steam games like Bastion etc) as well as preferably having a decent battery life.

On top of that I want it to be quite cheap, which is probably one of the most important things on this list (me being a poor impoverished British student). That said, having scrimped and saved (and also getting a job) I can probably afford around £500 if I put my mind to it. I could probably pay a little bit more if your arguments are persuasive enough ;)

Any thoughts?

Storm,
are you really sure you want a laptop? If you're in halls I understand space is at a premium, but the ammount of desktop you can buy for £500 will beat the pants off a £500 laptop. If you're not massively bothered, look for a Toshiba Satellite, they're pretty good laptops. Avoid Dell like the plague, all Dell computers I've ever come across have been nightmares.

I have an old Acer laptop laying around here somewhere and it's been a relatively reliable little machine, but I dont like laptops in general, not customisable enough.

My laptop's more for ease of taking places with me - the desktop's a bit of a beast to lug around at the best of times ;)

I settled on an Acer Aspire Ethos 5943G which was half price. It's looking sexy.

My last two laptops have been Acers and I've been very happy with them. The current one is fairly powerful and didn't set me back too much. It seems to handle most games at a good resolution but I haven't thrown any newer games at it lately. Still, I think Acer offers the best bang for buck.
