Speaking as a shell-shocked veteran of the "treatment" process (fuck you, Mom!), I agree 9001% with this advice. Anti-depressants are just legal versions of the illegal drugs and alcohol that people otherwise turn to in order to alleviate the pain of a broken life. In the words of Chris Rock, "The government doesn't want you to take YOUR drugs. They want you to take THEIR drugs so the drug companies can make money off you."TestECull said:Personally I feel those happy pills don't really solve anything and cause way more hell than they'll ever solve. Just for starters you'll end up dependent on the damned things just to function in society. Then they wreck any chance of getting into the military or police. Probably other careers too. Then there's the very common effect of them actually making it worse before they kick in proper. I have a friend I'm trying to break of these things, so that's just what I've noticed first-hand/read off his pill bottles.
It's kinda like a car with a loud knocking sound. The pills simply tape over the CEL and turn the radio up. No more symptoms? Problem must be fixed. Then the engine explodes.
I feel the only way to fix depression is to fix whatever is making you depressed in the first place, not screwing with a chemical balance we know very little about. I vote you not get the pills at all, instead try to find out why you are depressed and act on that instead.
Tell me about it. The old joke that "there is no way an antidepressant that causes erectile dysfunction could EVER improve a man's state of mind" is true.DoomyMcDoom said:well the only one that didn't make me feel like killing people so i might feel something after i started taking it was effexor... but it didn't "work" at all on me... of course i have had extensive experience with doctors trying to make my brain work right with pills... all ended up as highest legal dosage... and all of them just made my life a living hell... try erectile disfunction and insomnia... when your 15... NOT COOL.
Because neurochemical reactions are still very poorly understood, everyone's neurochemistry is different, and the brain is a very complicated organ that you can't just go poking around changing things without the possibility of unpleasant consequences.FalloutJack said:why doesn't the 'cure' just flush you back to normal and not all manner of possible weirdness.
Yer, when I first got my birth-control pills I was warned that antibiotics can interfere with them, and it's in my notes that I have them, so the doctor can check if I'm prescribed something else lol. Usually the leaflets with whatever medication warn you of common things that will interfere with whatever you're taking.WolfThomas said:About the girls and birth control, that's largely an issue with poor education around the pill, rather than antibiotics. A girl going on the pill should have all the contraindications explained to her and it's up to her to make sure it's fine. Antibiotics should not be blamed for ignorance.
damn straight, hard to get by in the teenage years when you can't "get it up" makes you feel like some kinda freak or a really old man or something... also not being able to sleep wasn't fun either... seriously when your pills are causing you to be tired all the time but unable to sleep... to the point where you start experiencing the excessive levels of fatigue that brings mixed with sleep deprivation induced hallucinations and reduced reaction time and balance... yeah... doesn't help much with how you see yourself or your life... and not being able to feel any emotion stronger than a very slight level of annoyance(which never goes away and drives you nuts) and a very mild level of pleasure, like when someone gives you a nice pair of socks in return for hours of hard labour... sure their nice socks... but their socks...SimuLord said:Tell me about it. Then we should have more studies in the range of how marijuana could treat depression.RhombusHatesYou said:We also don't know why it helped your friend, do we? Nor how the OP reacts to THC.AndyFromMonday said:We don't know that.RhombusHatesYou said:Because people don't all react the same to marijuana and if they're one of the people that THC triggers a paranoid/depressive cycle that's the last thing someone suffering with depression needs.AndyFromMonday said:Have you ever considered taking marijuana in order to treat your depression? It sure as hell helped my friend. No reason why it shouldn't help you.
Annecdotal evidence from my circle of friends over the past 20 or so years, OTOH, would suggest to me that individual responses to THC and its interaction with depression are not uniform and can range from zero effect besides getting wasted, to chilling about things, to an increase in symptom severity.
I dont want to be rude , but those are everyday problems for a lot of ppl.Josh Kurber said:I have a few reasons. Not really horrible reasons. I know for a fact millions have it worse than I do. Still in love with ex who loves another, can't get hired by any job anywhere (and I've searched for three years), have no money for anything, and really low self esteem, and I have no doubt that I will end up a bum with no family of my own. >_<TestECull said:I vote you not get the pills at all, instead try to find out why you are depressed and act on that instead.
EDIT: And the depression has just gotten so unbearable. I started out light a few years ago, then when I broke up with my ex things just progressively got worse. I haven't been able to have fun in months, unable to eat these past few days. Just.. eh.
And I apologize for whining about such simple things -.-
