Advice on this gaming pc please?

Hey all,

I'm planning on buying a gaming pc and I've searched around a bit and one caught my eye on Amazon.

Being a bit of a noob when it comes to pc's, I was wondering if you guys could offer me some input as to wether this is a good rig to get, if the graphics card is good enough to play games like Crysis 1 and 2 etc:

I don't want you to flame me for asking about the Crysis playability, but if there's one thing I know about pc gaming, it is that Crysis 1 and 2 are bloody beautiful. If it can play them, I'm as happy as can be.

That's massively over-priced for what it is, I'm running the same system but with 2 extra hard drives and a better card and you could build it yourself for much cheaper. That card's a pretty ropey choice but the rest of the machine is OK, but I'd recommend building it yourself.

If I were to build it myself, what hardware would you recommend?

A screen that has a resolution of 1920x1080 for a start.

Power by Corsair, cooling by Noctua (air) or Corsair (liquid), CPU by AMD (X6 1090T), 1Gb GTX 460 (or equivalent ATI card). Motherboard by Asus, ASRock or Gigabyte, HDD by Western Digital (velociraptor) or Seagate (Barracuda), Ram by OCZ, Corsair etc...

And a case from Coolermaster.

But that's just me, I'm sure you'll get loads of options once this thread fills up!

Er, that's slightly underpowered. Top of the line would be some sort of quad core processor with like 3.5+ ghz.

As far as overpriced... not sure. It includes the monitor key board and mouse, and the monitor is the single most expensive thing in the whole set. It also includes Windows 7. I think the price is pretty fair tbh.

you can build a better rig with parts for about £150 (ebuyer for parts) excluding a monitor. don't bother buying pre-built stuff when you can learn to build a rig in about 10 minutes of youtube

£690.00...is that about 1,200 US dollars? If so, that rig you're looking at is a RIPOFF.

First problem: The GPU interface is UNKNOWN. This is VERY VERY BAD. You'll want the latest PCI-EX slot for future upgrades.

2nd: That screen resolution is aweful. 1280x1024 is that cock-eyed 4:3 ratio that shouldn't even exist. The real 4:3 would be 1280x960. Widescreen is the future. Get a minimum of 1680x1050. Other affordable resolutions are 1920x1080 and 1920x1200.

They don't even tell you the socket type, or even more importantly, the CHIPSET on the motherboard. The information under TECHNICAL DETAILS CONFLICTS with the section headed PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS. Above they say it's an Tntel Core Duo CPU, which is a DUAL core chip(has 2 cores), underneath that, it says it's a Intel I5 760 Quad Core CPU, which is is supposed to have FOUR cores.
Don't buy this. Use this PC as guide and keep shopping. Go to Newegg.com and configure an identical system(as best as you can), and see how much money you'll save.

There is some confusing information. What you posted says a Core Duo but it is a i5-760 quad core. Also, it is a 22" computer monitor which has a resolution of 1680x1050 which is fine for gaming. The video card is under powered and the computer is overpriced.

If you are going to buy a Cyberpower computer go directly to them. Remember that Amazon is getting a cut from this sale. I went to the Cyberpower UK site and their prices are much better. It looks like Amazon is selling old stock.

This is link for a much better computer from CyberPower for(591.00) 709.00 GBP with VAT and you can lower that price a bit by choosing a cheaper case, i5 2500 instead of the i5 2500K(if you won't be overclocking) http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/weekly_sales_III/.

Of course it is cheaper to build your own computer. Do a price/part comparison to see how much the cost is between building it yourself or buying a pre-build.

If that's your theoretical budget then the system you're looking at is a dog. Overpriced and underpowered, even taking how the UK gets gouged on tech prices into consideration.

If you're looking to buy at the end of the year, I wouldn't bother getting pricings until Oct/Nov... Personally, I'd hold off anything until around Feb next year when both the AMD Bulldozer and Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs have both been released and had their effect on the market.

That's a fair whack of money for a not too hot PC.

I use Overclockers.co.uk for my computer stuff. Their Pre-Built systems are good value if you don't want to build yourself.

While I don't know how the UK prices their hardware at, you can use this Canadian PC hardware store (based out of Vancouver, BC Canada) that has very good prices to compare with. which is www.ncix.com. I buy from them all the time.

As I understand it, as I have lived in the UK once, the conversion rate between the Canadian or US dollar to the British Pound is about double. And you have a different tax. So I will let you figure that out.
