Now this might seem like an odd thing to ask about, but I'm not quite sure where else to go (My friends haven't been much help, and I'm open to ideas) Believe it or not, I am at a legit loss of what to do with it. And I figured this would be a fun way to go about getting some ideas.

I'm at the point of my life right now where a lot of major changes are on the brink of occurring, and to somewhat commemorate/herald these incoming changes, I've decided to change myself as well. And on that list of changes is perhaps the most important change of them all: My beard!

Here's a (slightly dated) photo of myself to give you an idea of what I'm working with:

^I've gotten a haircut since then, so my hair is not nearly as long anymore. But my beard is more or less the same.

Ever since the arrival of my beard, I've never really thought of changing it up in any way. I'm either completely shaven (Which is very rare these days), or bearded out at varying degrees of length. Now though, it might be time to 'move on' or at least try something different.

The only caveat I can think of is that my mustache sadly does not join with my beard, but continues to grow as a seperate independent entity. If I don't shave the 'stache, it can become rather snidely [http://earthside.typepad.com/.a/6a00d834516ae369e201761740e49f970c-800wi].

So I ask you, what sort of beard style do you recommend for a young man such as myself? Something garish? Or subdued and professional? Should I just shave off the beard and rock the 'stache? Or vice versa? Any recommendations are welcome!

That beard looks like it has potential to be turned into some seriously badass mutton chops.

Other than that, I don't have a lot of ideas.

I'd say go with whatever you can pull off. Goatees are usually fine. I'd recommend just bringing it up a little closer to the jawline. Just think of other facial hairstyles you've seen and ask yourself: which one do you want?

Go with the very simple. Trim to about a number 3 or 2 length, and shave the cheeks and under the chin. I envy you for having a black beard. I'm stuck with a damn ginger red beard.

Separate from adjusting the beard, I say reducing you hair length on your head. I think you've got the right head for a side parted, pomade of course, and a full beard. Help the beard to stand out an also a different look.
