The only exercise that will help you actually lose weight is walking. More strenuous exercises actually switch on your body's automatic emergency "fight or flight" response and part of that response is that your body stores fat. This is the reason why some people do aerobics every day and just can't lose weight. They're actually exercising too hard. Their body is in a panic, thinking that a dire emercency is happening, so it's storing fat like mad. Get used to walking small distances instead of using the car. Walk minimum 20 mins a day but the more the better. And don't run. You'll also save money on car trips.
i've actually lost 20 or so pounds using a stationary bike, so it's not only from walking. tho i don't like running, too many ways to hurt yourself and way too many douchebag runners out there. especially the ones that run on the road in the winter when it's snowing and go with the traffic.

Gym and strength training doesn't lose weight but what it can do is convert your existing weight from fat to muscle. That might be a good thing but it's more important to lose weight than to be muscly. A lot of really muscly people are actually really unfit and some have major health problems. It's good to do but it's not a substitute for walking.
Zombieland Rule #1 Cardio :)

funnily enough tho it is correct that cardio is a great thing. you are correct in saying that a lot of muscle bound people have crappy cardio, the good ones don't tho. the main thing for good cardio and having it all around is use varying speeds, ie on a stationary bike using a program instead of using one setting.

i really can't stress how important good cardio is. you can be really strong and tough but if you have no cardio, it's wasted.

The other piece of the puzzle is diet. If you're a diabetic you'll already know the importance of eating well. Try and stay away from soft drinks, especially that energy drink fucking crap which is pure poison. The best thing to drink if you're thirsty is water. Also try and keep away from any sort of fast food (hamburgers, takeaway-style pizza etc) or processed snack food (potato chips, cookies), I wouldn't be eating that stuff more than once a month. If you eat a lot of chocolate only buy expensive high-quality brands so your budget forces you to eat less of it. Try to eat less red meat, avoid big-ass steaks and stuff. Carbs are okay, eat as much of them as you want but not more than one type per meal, i.e eat all the pasta you want but don't eat bread with it. Or eat tons of potato but don't also have rice at the same time. Eat as much fruit and green veg as you want. Eat something green and vegetabley each day. Don't put salt on food. Good luck.
i will say that red meat isn't all bad, i lost weight eating a lot of steak, it depends on what you eat as well. tho chicken and turkey, both without skin, are really good for you and so is fish.

fruit and vegetables are really good for you. really you can eat a lot of them and not have to worry about it. a big plate of veggies has little to no calories in it but it will fill you up.

another good thing to drink is juice, there is a catch to this tho. you have to find real juice, most stuff in the store isn't pure juice, it's at the most 40% juice. i drink either apple cider from the farmers market, which has no additives in it or i drink stuff called 100% pure pineapple juice, it has pineapple juice in it and not much else. also with pineapple juice there's benefits with drinking it as it will make certain things taste sweeter. there are other pure juices you can get too, just read the label first.

as for carbs if you want to lose weight, cutting down on carbs is best as unused carbs are stored as fat and they are high in calories as well. potatoes are fine and so is some pasta, however stay away from name brand bread, go to a local bakery and get bread from there, it has less crap in it.

stay away from sugar and pop. tho being diabetic you should already be doing this, unless you're the type that needs it.

as for exercises for you to do. you can do push ups and sit ups. there are a few types of sit ups you can do, look them up on the net. there is also walking, do this for at least 20 mins per day and try going up and down at least one hill. you can get an exercise bike, which will build up your cardio really well.

other ones i can suggest is getting a tire from a farm tractor and turning it over and over. you can usually get them from farmers for free since they have to pay to get rid of them. there is also sledgehammer exercises you can do with the tires as well, look them up on the net.

as for other exercises, do a google search for ones you can do at home. always keep aiming higher but don't over exert yourself, it might take a week or 3 to get to the next level but keep trying to do more.

the last thing i will say is you probly won't lose a lot of weight at first, you might even gain some. this is NOT a bad thing it's actually good. why this is happening is that your fat is being converted to muscle and the muscle weighs more than the fat. my best idea for fat loss is to take measurements and the scale, instead of just the scale alone.

I have a metabolism that breaks things down faster than sulfuric acid, so that's how I stay skinny. I suggest cross country. That helped build muscle for me, and it really helps with endurance. Most of the things offered here won't sound that appealing, but cross country might be your best bet. It's pretty straight forward. Stretch, run ,stretch. simple as that. Get on google earth and see how many times around your block is a mile. just do a mile every day.

I've lost something like 70 lbs in something like a year by cutting out pop and crappy food

(We all know what kind of food I'm talking about. haha)

And that was with nearly no "planned exercise" I just walked where I needed to get when ever possible.
