"I'll go on in Admiral, procure some drinks, help us enjoy the festivities more." Garrett said, before heading into the gala - a smile on his face. "Go ahead Mr. Corvus-" she said, adding "-I'll meet you in a few minutes."
Thereafter, she went back to scanning the crowd for the President. It proved a somewhat more difficult problem then expected given she had never met President Remmington before and hadn't the faintest idea what she looked like. Fortunately, it was the new quartermaster - Wilhelmena - to the rescue. "Let me introduce you to Mrs. Remmington. She already knows me, and it would be proper." Adrianna raised an eyebrow at the statement, wondering how on earth she knew the woman.
Wilhelmena led her by the arm to another woman; dressed finely in what Adrianna could only assume was the fashion of the time. "Mrs. Remmington, this is Rear-admiral Adrianna." Her friend said, as they stopped in front of her. "Ms. Adrianna, this is president Remmington." Wilhelmena said in introduction. Remmington - as expected of a politician - was quick to act when it came to the pleasantries as she curtsied and said "It's a pleasure to meet you, and I see you brought good company with you."
Adrianna bowed in turn, per Imperial expectations. "Likewise Madam-President. On behalf of the Empire, I thank you for your long years of commitment to the pact." she said, a bit to formally if she had a guess. The embassy had insisted on those being the first words said at the party - no doubt trying to stay on the President's best side. She then took the President's hand and added, much more truthfully, "and on behalf of myself and my crew, I thank you for your most gracious invitation."

Ciel made her way into the party, having grown somewhat more accustom to the borderline insane design of her dress. She glanced around the room to gain her bearings before making her way toward the nearest bar for she certainly had no wish to dance in the unforgiving dress. She sat at the watering hole, a few feet from where a pair of apparent pirates were discussing the better parts of alcohol. She heard one of them mention Engineering, so she eavesdropped in to see if she had a way into an actual conversation with someone mildly intelligent - a conversation she was sorely in need of.
[HEADING=2]Exeter[/HEADING]
A few seconds after Ciel, Exeter entered the building and likewise took his bearings. He could make out a number of people dancing to music, a number eating and speaking with their companions, and a not-insignificant number of people drowning themselves in alcohol. How droll he thought sarcastically to himself, all but consigning himself to a night of boring conversation with uninteresting people.
That was, until he saw her. She was at the bar getting drunk with a number of others - surely pirates. While it irked him to see she had lived through the experience of losing an arm, it at least meant the night would be eventful. Besides, given that both were armed and likely forbidden from killing each other, it was a perfect chance to bother the woman. Well, at least until Lt. Com. Ring arrived; then she'd be dead before she realized she was in danger. But even then, at least it wouldn't be boring.
With all the confidence and self-worth of an Imperial Marine, he made his way into the crowd, staying out of her sight until the last possible moment, slowly working his way closer and closer, like the predator his pirate life had taught him to be, until he was but feet from her. "Well well; if it isn't the lovely first officer of the Mermaid." he said with a smirk that betrayed his sense of power. "do you perhaps need a hand madam? he said, his smirk growing larger at the dig.

Ciel watched as the First Officer approached one of the pirates, mentioning her missing hand. Great.. and here I thought the night would be quiet she thought to herself, before turning to watch the sure to be disaster.
