Okay, A-level results day is on the 19th. I need three As to get into my ideal university and Two As and a B to get into my second choice. There is a good chance I won't get this.

If I do fail to get either, does anyone know if you can do retakes after results day to improve my grade and still get into uni a year later?

Do they accept grades that take longer than two years to get (i.e. started september '08, receive final a-level grade in 2011)?

Does anyone know anything, be it from personal experience or whatever? as usual student advice forums have been pretty useless.

Im not to sure, however a few people in the year above me didn't get into the universities they wanted to get in to they ended up taking a "gap year" and revised for a couple of modules they were resitting in that gap year.

Remain positive, which is hypocritical to say as I'm not looking forward to Thursday.

OT: The people who did what I mentioned above only needed to resit one or two modules, they arranged the resits with the 6th form they were at.

Depending on whether your college/6th forms lets you do a 'year 14' you may be able to retake / start new A levels.

Universities go off of your expected grade from your teachers and your AS level results.

I'm waiting on my AS results right now.

So you can resit modules after year 13 and still go to uni?

Good, that's very, very good.

They do with GCSEs, I know because I retook my English. Twice.

GCSE Results day on Tuesday...I'm quietly bricking myself.

I say that, but I'm gonna be one of those annoying people that will get really angry and depressed if they don't get straight A*s. Which I won't.

Sorry I didn't explain what I was trying to say very well. They did end up taking a gap year, and reapplying through UCAS again to go to uni, a year later than they intended.

They are resitting modules after year 13 but they are taking a year out then going university.

(The only reason the gap year was in ""marks is because they didn't have any travelling planned or anything major, just doing a little bit of revision.)

Hope that helps not confuses : /

If you don't get your required grades then contact the University as soon as possible. Depending on how far off you are from the expected grades they may still have some spaces going free that you can take if you're fast enough and they accept you. Or I think that is the case at least, I'm only waiting for my AS results currently and one A2 that I did as part of a fast track course, so I'm not the most reliable source in this matter.

But yeah, you can resit your second year (as long as your 6[sup]th[/sup] Form/ College allow you to do so) and Universities will still accept that. It's kind of an advantage with having the whole A Level split into AS and A2.

I thought this might be a thread about other people who got their results today - I found out this morning that I have completed foundation year of the AAT, and am hopefully due a small pay rise!

Yeeeeeeeah, bitches!

DW I'm in the same persition as you just with lower grades.
If you don't get into either uni place and you applied through UCAS you go through clearing so you could still go to uni this year. Failing that most colleges, i know mine does, will allow you to resit with the intention of going to uni however you do have to go through the whole process of reaplying which is fun :p
Good luck hope you get the results you require.

I feel your pain, albeit the Irish leaving certificate version. I would recommend contacting your University. I think a lot of courses allow some sub-par [in terms of required grades, relax] students in on a competitive basis if the course isn't in very high demand.

I'll probably need to re-sit, or take an alternate route. Except I needed much lower grades than you [two Higher-level C3s, six passes]. How embarrassing.

Ah, yeah from what I know thats fine, I don't think any harm can be done by asking your teachers on results day if you haven't planned on doing that.

I did really well in my entry exam (average score was 16/30, i got 23/30), am on full EMA from a single parent family where no one has ever been to university before and I'm a local area student.

Provided I come close, i think I'm still in with a chance.

But spaces are sparse this year, though, and loads will be turned away.

Fucking hell, this is bullshit. We should only be made to apply once we know our grades, not based on what we might get. Too much stress.

lol I hated writing a personal statement, I took a ridiculous amount of time writing it. It would have been a good inspiration for me to do well if I ever thought I would ever had to reapply on UCAS again. I'm not keen on the application system (I wouldn't be what ever it was tbh).

Ah god, you've reminded me about Thursday, and now I have that awful feeling in the lower half of my body that I usually associate with dentist visits.

Universities, I have been told, don't care about resits anymore. If you retake exams or even the whole year, it shouldn't go against you. Apparently they even like the fact that you'll be a more 'mature' student when you apply at 19/20/whatever, but don't hold me on that.

I plan on doing a 'Year 14', and I've been told that I can do it...but, I'm terrified that one of my teachers won't let me back onto a course that I also failed at AS.

Then of course, if I have any U grades, mother shall delight in removing anything with wires from my room. Sigh.
