...for a good space RPG that is not Mass Effect or star wars related. Can you help me? One that allows you to fly ships would be a good bonus.
I second that game.ReepNeep said:Look up 'Ur-Quan Masters' at sc2.sourceforge.net
Its a seriously weird amalgam of genres, one of which is RPG, and one of the best games I've ever played. It really captures the vastness of space as well as having very solid gameplay and wonderful writing. The space combat sequences have been described by people I've introduced to it as 'asteroids on crack'. Its also freeware which should make anyone happy.
The downside is that its rather old. 1992 to be precise. I still run through the game every couple of years and thoroughly enjoy myself. It even has a two player mode in splitscreen and direct TCP/IP internet and I play games every so often with a friend in Montana.
Its worth a look at the very least.
UQM smacks the crap out of Freelancer, sorry to say.Melaisis said:Freelancer.

Good suggestion but don't be too hasty, it does the space ship stuff decently, in a fun acrade fashion, but I will admit that the interactions with the "locals" and how the faction relationships work is very novel at first, then seem to get extremely repetitive latter. I haven't checked out all the mods for it, so there may actually be some more features added that way, but it definitely doesn't have the RPG sense if you mean getting out of the space ship and whipping out the six shooter, playing a doc, being a wiz mechanic/technician or professional "companion" - its like all Wash and making fantastic trade/contraband runs and some interesting combat if you know how to fly forwards while shooting turrets backwards.Melaisis said:Freelancer.

There hasn't been movement on that for a while now, so I wouldn't hold my breath, especially with such a limited IP to work with (i.e. 13 eps worth and a few graphic novels with a movie).Albino Ninja said:I heard that a firefly MMO might be made. So I was ecstatic about that, though no confirmation.
If you can excuse Fallout's now rather *ahem* modest graphics, UQM should suit you fine. Seriously, the game is truly wonderful and if you're adoring Fallout we would seem to have similar taste.Albino Ninja said:I can excuse a lot of things for good gameplay and story, graphics are among that category. I recently got Fallout and have been enthralled in that.
