So yea, you may not know it due to the strange lack of mention on a site like this, but this years AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) is well under way in its quest to fight cancer and entertain.

For those who don't know, it is basically a bunch of speed runners and gamers that gather to do a speed running marathon for about a week that they stream and gather donations for Prevent Cancer Foundation.
They play a wide range of different games in many different ways. Everything from just getting through it as fast as possible, to one handed or blindfolded. Not only that, but they also take the time to explain much of whats actually going on and the stories behind things.
In short, it's a fantastic way to get a better understanding of what this speed running is actually all about.

Personally I really like it, and tend to watch most of it after its over as it's a bit tricky to catch it all live.
Not only is it fun to watch them find sick ways to get around things, but they also tend to pull out random things, like making a pokemon game stream twitch chat.
But most of all it's nice to just see fellow gamers having fun with games in weird and different ways than you normally see.

It started on sunday and will last until next sunday.

Here is a link to what has been played, and whats coming.

So anyone else find this kinda thing interesting? Anyone following it?
For those who do, what games did you like, or what do you look forward to?

I've been tuning in occasionally, as I've started doing every 6 months, since they have their Summer Games Done Quick in the summer as well. I'll try to watch a few games in particular, such as Age of Empires, Diablo + Diablo II and Bloodborne. Watching the occasional platformer is fun as well, as they tend to be the most visually impressive with the tricks the runners pull off. I watched a Donkey Kong Country run just earlier, and some of those moves were insane.

On the whole, there aren't a huge number of games which tickle my fancy in this year's program, but sometimes it's good to just take a look and see if it manages to grab my attention. Some of the runners also offer quite good commentary, and some less so, which makes a big difference for whether I'm going to watch the whole run or not. But I do find speedruns interesting in general, so I'm really glad this event exists, as it's a great way to get an overview of what kinds of games are being run.

It's also kind of crazy when they talk about tricks for NES games which are apparently only a few months old. The idea that games that old are still being optimized and getting finished faster and faster after all these years by a dedicated community is a bit mind blowing.
