Hey all, ive just sent a letter of complaint too a brewery for something that happened a few days ago.
Myself (age 20, important), a friend (20), My cousin (21) & his fiance (19) had had quite a lazy day enjoying the weather & decided that we'd go have a quiet pint in a pub near my cousins house, then carry on with the day. As i was driving i wasnt on the booze.
Now, We enter a pub and in the lobby it states that in a specific area (too the right of the sign) is for over 21's only. Fair enough we thought, we went too the door too the left of the sign (a different part of the bar) and thought we could get a drink. How wrong we were.
After standing at the bar for a few minutes my friend places a drinks order, Coroner for him & pint of coke for me, at this point a small portly woman approaches us (she was the manager) and says she's going too need too see ID. Fair enough we thought, since there was going too be alcohol poured, and we all produce ID.
At that point the woman points out you have too be over 21 too be in the pub and asks us too leave. We complied as not too make a scene and possibly back up any kind of vendetta these people have against people my age.
This has managed too tick me off - the legal age for alcohol in the UK is 18, so why is there a strict 'no under 21's allowed" policy? I have worked in a pub for a year so i can understand that a group of 'yobs' around my age can be troublesome, But its up too the manager to ask them to leave. You cannot tar everyone with the same brush.
Ive taken this quite personally, you wouldnt be allowed to ban people with a different colour skin or foriegners, but you can ban people of a certain age, even if they have done nothing wrong.
I would like too point out at this stage that I am very well spoken, as are my associates, we have no criminal records and i am currently trying too join the police.
Whats your thoughts on the age discrimination? Have you had any problems like this? What do you recommend? (ive already complained to the brewery, the letter is already on its way, sensible suggestions people.)
Thanks!
