Ok, here's my problem with this: Preordering equals achievements ("Dark Ages Rush")? How callous can you possibly be, Microsoft?
It's an achievement. They are notorious for being utterly useless and easy.

You took 5 steps, here is an Achievement!
You clicked a button, here is an Achievement!
You killed 5 enemies, here is an Achievement!

It's like that in almost every game. It's the nature of Achievements, because they are dumb.

The funny thing is, AoE 2 Gold Edition works on Win 8 64bit fine. Ok, it does not have achievements or a HD resolution, but the graphic design of the game is so good, that it looks nice even in 1024*768 on a 22" monitor.

Just a few bugs that will be sorted out and already have an alternative fix, stop complaining like it's the end of the world.

The re-release is about multiplayer functionality and automatch. We suddenly don't need to organize games on forums or weird alternative game clients and that's awesome.

Worked fine for me other than lag and a single crash.

People are overreacting and its really fucking annoying.

That's your problem with the game? You must be fun to talk to about games...

Isn't it out on April 9? Maybe they uploaded a broken/incomplete dataset?
Its regional, the States usually get games a few days before Europe (which is completely retarded with any digital distribution platform might I add )

Only issue I have is the Game Visibility doesn't obey my selection. Setting it to Friends doesn't restrict the visibility of my hosted games to my Friends list. Otherwise it works great.

Anyone who preordered it get access a few days earlier.

Ok, just booting it now, I'm hoping for the best.

EDIT: Well, just as the startup screen suggest, it is indeed looking funky, but singleplayer works fine. However, the one multiplayer match I joined had so much lag it felt like it was turn based. Hoping this was a one-off.

It's been working fine for me. No crash, no lag.

The only this is when I'm building walls and I move my cursor off screen, it flies to the other end of the map.

I don't need that much wall, game :L

Other than that, the achievements are broken, and occasionally the main menu music will be accompanied with static (but other times it's fine).

Ah fair enough, I just assumed it was the usual weird delayed region release that a lot of companies have now.

I don't see the need for an older 2D-plane strategy game being re-released in "HD". It seems kind of redundant.

Agree on the point that people should avoid pre-ordering if they get miffed over early functionality issues and the like.. However, at no point should this shift responsibility from the developers/publishers for releasing a broken product. It is not the fault of consumers because they "ordered early", or "too soon".

I can't think of any other facet of consumerism where this is considered acceptable. If a company sold a malfunctioning appliance, safety risk or otherwise, they are accountable for reimbursement and recalling the product from all shelves immediately.

Main reason I'm angry is because all they've done is pretty it up a bit and fix a few balance issues, they haven't changed the mechanics or levels at all. As a result, there is no reason why it should be so broken it is unplayable.

Bought the game the moment it became available on steam. Have been playing it for 2 days with a friend with only minor connection issues.
No other issues.

It's weird how I some people can have everything wrong with the game but someone like me has a perfectly functioning game :/

I bought it because:
1. I lost my disk
2. It's on steam with the other games I have
3. The OSX port only works on older power PC hardware

However preordering it may have been silly.

I preordered Age of Empires 2 HD on steam, as did many others. It became available to play and ever since then there have been masses of complaints from people about it crashing, bugging out or just plain not working. I myself am unable to play it as it won't even launch without crashing (apparently this is happening to anyone who tries to play it on xp or a 32-bit version of vista). Given that this is basically just an HD rerelease of an old game that worked fine, how have the developers managed to screw it up so badly?

EDIT: The system requirements specifically state it should work on xp.
Anyone on XP should stop bitching really. The OS is what 11 years old? I don't hear anyone about games not working on Win2k or 98 either. Anyone without at least Win7 64b should upgrade asap.

I dont get your logic. The developers specifically state it should run on xp. Therefore, it should run on xp, no?

XP is an 11 year old OS that's no longer officially supported. It's also being phased out of compatibility in newer titles today, even indie titles today are having trouble with Windows XP. Yeah the developers say that it should work with XP but PC gaming is a big more complicated then that and you know it.

The game also hasn't even been out 48 hours yet so there may be a patch/homebrew fix coming.

But seriously, if you're using your PC for gaming it makes little sense to have XP at this point. People who still use it seem to be wearing nostalgia goggles.

I know right. Apparently Alpha Protocol and Skyrim were buggy as hell. Sure weren't for me.

Well sorry. I was a little interested in this game. Guess I won't be getting it now.
