Should games be sold in shops to be under the rating on the box? No.

In your home, it's up to you. Once you're 15 there's no reason to not be able to play an 18 - the difference is minimal. The difference between a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old is larger.

Oh, one age rating that bothers me though: why can have sex at 16 but not watch people doing it in a video until I'm 18?!

Meh, I started watching horror movies at 7 & now I'm completely desensitized to violence to the point of finding it boring. Self-inflicted & accidental violence however are funny.

I don't think age restrictions should exist at all.

Seriously, people. Give me one benefit they give us or society.
Well I can give you a bunch. They keep mature games out of childrens' han... oh wait... well um, they inform parents of game conten... well ok... um... they maximize retailer profits by encouraging parents to buy kid friendly ga.... oh... now I see your point.

social engineering is not cool in any form.
The only reason the games are 'mature' and 'unfit for children' is because people MAKE it that way. People decide swearing is bad, so they stop kids being allowed to hear swearing in games or films, which they'll likely hear non-stop in everyday life anyway. Violence, the only reason it would encourage kids to do it is because it's being hidden from them with censorship, and they think it would be 'cool' to rebel. And again, they see and hear about it in everyday life, not to mention the news. The news is available for EVERYONE to see. Hiding sexual content? What good is that doing anyway? Drug use? They hear about that on the news and at school. And it's not exactly going to encourage them, they can't even get ahold of drugs as kids. And they wouldn't know where to get it from. What else is there? Gore? They don't care. You know what kids are like with gore. When they see gory films, their eyes are mezmerizedly glued to the screen in a "whooaahh" state. What else is there?

As I'd raise my children to be intelligent, I wouldn't need the ratings system. A game is a game is a game.
basically this. its not the games we need to be childproof, we need to ready proof our children

my parents didn't do too bad (they didn't know much about games, and they didn't know about half the games i played however) and they usually told me what was right and wrong and led me a good path, in which what games i played didn't matter or affect any outcome of what i am today

if you seriously blame video games for kids behavior...may god have mercy on your soul as a parent. you failed.
