I have always wondered why there is age verification for "adult" videos. I rarely ever put my actual age on the windows, because that would take too long. I can imagine that underage kids do the exact same thing I do. So what's the point of having to verify your age if it is so easy to lie about it?

It's to take blame off the site. If someone gets mad at them for letting kids look at pictures of nekkid people or whatever. They can't blame the site "Hey he lied about his age that's on him!"

Its something to do with, if they ask, then they aren't responsible for whoever uses there services. Whereas if they don't they are responsible, for whoever uses their service.

I found a recap of that case. It was a 79 year old woman who spilled coffee on herself at a McDonalds drive-through trying to add sugar/cream in it and she did win. 450,000$. Here's a kind of summary [http://www.okbar.org/public/judges/mcdonaldsoutline.pdf].

I don't get why they even discuss "safe serving temperatures" for coffee... I mean, it's made with boiling water...

It seems like a lack of common sense on her part, some things you don't need to be warned about.
