So anyone for deer hunting? Either way how have these spam bots made it past Captcha!? Something I struggle with from time to time!

Is Captcha really that effective? At first I was thinking it was (not that I'd seen spam or bots before (maybe just really quick thinking by mods?)) but now I'm questioning it. Will we ever live in a spam free world?

Well, we'll have spam until there isn't a Chernobyl anymore.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't a bot. We had the same spammer come through and get banned shortly before the captcha went up. The fact that it's a repeat offense, despite the banning and the captcha, suggests that it's probably some jerk who's getting paid to manually sign up and spam.

To the spammers out there: kindly target your ads better. This isn't a hunting forum, no matter how many posters have guns. We don't care about hunting ads, especially not when they're as sketchy as the ones you just put up.

That's a point. I didn't even think of that, but how do you stop something like that!?

Especially Bad hunting simulators. If I am going to hunt, I will go outside, not buy a bad game.

That seems incredibly ineffectual, especially since they're not taking the effort to at least make it appear to be legitimate.

Though I still doubt Captcha's effectiveness.

As annoying as it is, there's something quite funny about a hunter being able to evade the Captcha traps and anti-spam measures on this site.

It's almost as if he's able to use his hunting and stalking skills on the Internet, like an E-Rambo.

Although in actuality it probably isn't some wily hunter out-foxing everyone with his leet skills, it probably isn't Elmer Fudd, but it's amusing to think there's some ultra masculine uber-hunter of men sat in his log cabin, surrounded by guns, Deer heads and Bears he killed with nothing but a Bowie Knife, spamming the Escapist on his laptop.

I don't think Captcha works at all, really.

Considering I'm a real person (possibility of me being a Cylon notwithstanding) and I have trouble discerning what it's telling me to type, along with the fact that spammers are getting through anyway, it seems Captcha is better suited at inconveniencing the users than anything else.

I don't know, just my opinion.

That right there is the threat we're dealing with (as well as being a hilarious mental image).

So kind of like DRM for the interwebs.

Mind my words, the day will come that captcha's will become so unreadable that we will need a computer to decipher them.

But really, jdownloader seems to find it's way around the captcha's on rapidshare, so I'm guessing spammers will catch up eventually.

I'm willing to sift through spam if it gets rid of captchas. Oh, and I have a new hatred for the word 'captcha.' It's a horrible phonetic phrase.

Thank you.

If I shoot a white-tailed deer, I'll do it my way. With a bolt-action World War II rifle over iron sights. I need no paid advice.

...what a weird thing to advertise, honestly...

We mock him with jokes about overcompensation for tiny members until he goes away in a sulk.

. . .

Or was that how you get attention on youtube? I mix these things up sometimes.
