Maybe, this endorsement will drive sales of the Kinect to new highs, with a kinect in place in all homes developers will be able to fire out quick cheap game to produce quick cash they can reinvest into incredible new and original games that couldn't have previously been funded.

And maybe I will start crapping gold nuggets. about as likely

You're a few decades behind on the eyebrow controller.

smart move by microsoft, but it'll be all for nothing eventually, probably, most gamer type people realize kinect is going to be a failure, at least at the prototype stage that is at right now.

Being British I don't really get the whole Oprah thing. Isn't she just a fat woman that sits on a sofa?

She's a fat rich woman who sits on a sofa. She's like the rich neighbor that you pretend to be friends with so that you can look classy and go to nice parties.

But Americans realise that the people in the little box in your living room aren't really in your living room, right? I just don't see how she has so much influence on people. But that's more of a statement towards idiot people, than of her. I guess she's the smart one.

So all those sales aren't actually for people who want them, just Pavlov's treats?

Well, the sales figures make a little more sense now.

Richard and Judy? Deliah Smith? Jeremy Kyle?

Actually, just think Jordan and you've got the idea.

I never seem to think that Richard and Judy, Deliah Smith or Jordan have the kind of reach that Oprah does. Especially not Jordon. The people that follow her don't deserve to be called 'people'.

And I can't see why people hate Jeremy Kyle. He shouts at the kind of people that like Jordan, and I respect that.

Actually, I'm not a huge fan of Gabe Newell either, but that's another story all together.

No, I don't like motion controls, but I'm fine with the Wii using it because that's it's "thing" and it has been since it's launch. The Wii is very much a family oriented console and that's totally fine; having some variety between consoles keeps things fresh.

What does piss me off is Microsoft and Sony jumping on the bandwagon like a bunch of lemmings. I know that copying a succes formula is pretty standard in the games industry, but this is just freaking ridiculous. Sony and Microsoft are wasting their time and money on this 3 year old novelty. Time and money they could have invested in creating actual new and exciting games.

And I wasn't hating on Oprah, I was just hoping that the Move and Kinect would quietly slip under the door and fade into obscurity within a year. But with the Move sales and Oprah's muscle behind Kinect that is unfortunately not going to happen.
Nah thats not gonna happen but from your post it seems like you are writing motion controls off. I can see how you could see that microsoft want a part of the wii's audience seeing as how its marketed and the 16 party/sports titles coming out, but i have high hopes for move. Although for commercials it seems to be marketed toward families, with the lineup and support, i think they are less trying to take a piece of a saturated market and more trying to make it appeal to gamers. Also move was in the works before the wii.

Oh and motion controls(done right) have the potential to add for more control. Think of it this way, years from now it would be the difference between controlling games with your mind(equivalent of standard controllers)and putting on a virtual boy style helmet and being on a treadmill with all of your motions tracked. Both would be awesome and i would be disappointed to not have either in the future.

Oprah has just endorsed gaming and you are mad at her? Have her send her legions of followers to California to help our fight. Oprah can buy the Supreme Court if need be. Do not scorn her power use it!

All Hail the Supreme Leader!

Oh, you want a suit taht tickles you till you pee as well?

If they keep on evolving the kinect technology, which supposedly can sense your mood (i assume it uses face recognition of some sort for this) they might actually be able to make something you can controll with your eyebrows... otehrwise use the analog stick controllers and duct tape creatively, and you may be able to play simpel games with your eyebrows...

Customers also bought 54 million extra eggs after she showed the nation how to boil or fry them.
Richard and Judy do the same for books, Jordan does the same for Celebrity Tat papers.
Especially not Jordon. The people that follow her don't deserve to be called 'people'.
Katie Price leaving IACGMOOH lost them 2 million viewers.

He IS one of those people though. Just a baby Robert Kilroy Silk. I've more respect for Jerry Springer.

Why are people complaining? Would you prefer her to be condemning Xbox's and the "bad influence" gaming has on people instead like all other media's?

Just be grateful gaming is getting some positive attention for Christ sake.

On his show yes. Although having read a paper article by him, he can actually manage to not be a complete dick-head when he wants to be.

Well, what did you expect? They're advertising it as the next big Christmas toy, and Oprah is watched by damn near every woman in that age group who will be looking for something cool to buy their young son or daughter. If they didn't do this, they'd be idiots.

They're basically selling this to young kids and families. They're not making any effort to sway over hardcore gamers.

Why is it a nightmare? It won't effect you as-long as you don't want it to. I fail to grasp this 'OH NOES, THE MOTION CONTROLLERS ARE COMING' attitude. If you don't like it. Fair do's. Don't buy it. They're just a gimmick. Some people will enjoy them. Others won't. If you're savy enough to notice them for what they are. Good for you. Just quietly laugh at everyone tripping over to get them.

It's not like real developers are going to get shunned in favour of shovelware. They're just a harmless gimmick. Not every company is Nintendo.
Oh thank god, a rational opinion on the matter.

This is pretty much exactly my feelings on the matter. What's wrong with Sony and Microsoft trying to expand their consumer base? Do hardcore drivers freak out when BMW creates a line of minivans?

If it's a fad it will die harmlessly. If it's something interesting then good stuff will surface and everyone will benefit.

Also move was in the works before the wii.
I was interested in the Move right after they showed some of those initial tech demos where they showed the Move being used not so much to play games but to manipulate virtual spaces. In one demo you saw a guy use two Move controllers to grab a virtual picture and manipulating it in 3D, twisting it like a sheet of paper. That was pretty cool.

But as it stands the Move is going to be used in two ways: (1) For Eye-Toy games and Wii game knock-off's. And (2) implementing it into regular shooters, racing and adventure games. Both of which don't sound very new or exciting.

Oh and motion controls(done right) have the potential to add for more control. Maybe I'm alone in this, but controlling games with your mind sounds terrible. I like the 4th wall. I like having a screen infront of me instead of being on some kind of Star Trek holodeck. I like having the control in my hands and fingers instead the chaotic whirlpool that is my mind. Same as I wouldn't want to have a car that drives itself; I wanna drive the damn thing.

And the only way I see motion controls add more control than a normal D-pad, is if they invent a pair of gloves with penlights sticking out of the fingertips which allow you to control the game like a regular puppet master.
I'm all for new and intuitive controls, but it has to remain at your fingetips since they are the most acurate and dexterous part of your body.

Saw the demo you are referring too one of the reasons i have high hopes for it. I didn't expect THE move title to come at launch. Dr. Richard marks already said the game he said would be perfect for move(don't want to misquote him), i think it was something about hacking away at zombies with one hand and using telekinesis throwing them around with the other. When watching the demo several game ideas came to mind. What move needs is a title that is only possible with move. Something that clearly cannot be done on the wii or kinect(if it worked), and the demo shows there is a lot of things on that list. It's demos like that and ideas that prevent me from writing off move as a gimmick or another casual motion controller. Sony doesn't want to give people a reason to buy move without forcing it on them, which is why they add support for already existing games, but they lack the titles that are only for Move and have a clear reason for it. The only one that comes close is sorcery and i feel as if its gonna fall into the trap of focusing too much on the controls. It will most likely be a hollow game. I also prefer to have a controller most of the time but if i had the option i would do around 30% of my gaming in the virtual-reality-treadmill-thing.

I'd rather see the industry go through some slow years than have motion controls become the norm.
