I was thinking of new gameplay mechanics to add to multiplayer FPS games, and this came to mind: combining FPS gameplay with the fun of creating your own party in RPGs.
Each human player is a sergeant (or some other officer rank) and controls a number of AI soldiers in his squad with button or voice commands. The player still controls a first-person character and can fight like in any other FPS. Each player could customize his squad's classes, cosmetic features, and equipment prior to matches much like you would customize classes in CoD. You would be able to give them commands, and they would also save the player when he is incapacitated by enemy fire. Players on opposing teams would only be able to tell which enemies are bots and which are humans through observation; there would not be any on-screen indicator.
Do you think this could work, or would it be an impractical and unpopular feature? Is this something you would want to see in shooters?
