I would buy this ship for only one reason.

To put it in my tiny garden, pointing up of course (otherwise it wouldn't fit), just to piss of my twat of a neighbour.

Sounds like an opportunity for Richard Branston to buy it and turn it into a luxury hotel, WITH a landing strip for your private jet.. yes...

I'd buy it its old MOD stuff so it should last until the end of known time, if you fly the British flag from it you will be praised by many tabloids and then get lots of money to get it up and running again, finally, wouldn't it be awesome to own one?

+ you could charge America to land their jets on it.. hehe
no no no no no no no no, no.

the usa have only one jet I think made state side that could land on it, other than that as already stated British aircraft carriers were budget buys, really only suitable for helicopters, change all of what you said about anything relating to air planes and allow me to not have to slam my own nations choice of aircraft carrier any further, the French have better aircraft carriers ffs: (
I was kind of joking about the last part, but yeah the good 'ol MOD always gets everything on the cheap and then gets confused when people die or we have to borrow US and French air carriers...

Surely the USA have quite a few jump jets? surely..

If I were to form my own nation and needed a flagship, I'd be on it 100% I would go from having no navy at all to a navy with huge striking power.

I'd throw a Westinghouse reactor that Nimitz class carriers, as well as France's Charles de Gaulle, use for their powerplants. I would then proceed to buy the RNFAA's decomissioned FRS2 Sea Harriers and some Sea Kings.

Back that up with some decommissioned Los Angeles submarines and update some old decommissioned cruisers with modern radars and Tomahawk and Sea Sparroe launchers, and you'd have an impressive fleet. Why build brand new ships when you can just retrofit and refurbish old ones?

Imagine the shipping cost O_O...
That actually made me twitch, so well played sir.

And I was thinking that since it is not capable of powering itself, but it tow-able you just need a little tug boat to pull you along, it certainly would be much cheaper than the repairs itself. If you are coming at someone in an aircraft carrier they aren't going to be any less intimidated by the little boat you have with you.

Either that or fill it with oil and do a scene by scene reenactment of the later half of Waterworld.

... wouldn't it be great if an avid Escapist fan really did drop two hundred grand on this?

I'm surprised the Canadian Navy hasn't bought it already, after all, we bought the UK's broken subs.
Too true my friend, too true.

That said, this would bring me one step further to my childhood dream of being a rockstar and owning an aircraft carrier...

Someday!
