I'm at an airport, waiting to leave for my vacation. I was just wondering, for those of us who travel, what it is you like/don't like about airports.

I like the fact that they have free WiFi, is filled with interesting people and that you are able to watch aircraft to your hearts content.

I dislike the high prices of... well, everything. Other than that, I like the airport.

You?

Worst part about airports is the oppressive atmosphere. Police with guns, hard surfaces everywhere, the constant worry of losing something or accidentally leaving your bag unattended or missing your flight. The agony as you walk through the metal detector. I know it won't go off, but it's just so tense.

I prefer the actual flying more.

I like the little shops after going through security. I like the Starbucks right after going through; I usually get a gigantic black tea since all sizes of tea cost the same price. I enjoy watching airplanes take off, and like you said, interesting people. I also like Duty Free shops, even though I never buy anything there. They have some cool stuff. One had a $17,000 bottle of cognac.

I dislike the high prices, too. But what I dislike more is crying babies and asshole customs officials. Strangely, the only asshole customs officials I've had to go through were on the way to America. It's not like I'm contributing to your tourism industry, right?

I love airports. I go airside as early as I can, every time I fly.

I don't look forward to the flying part as much as I used to though as my usual destination is New Zealand.....a 24 hour journey, usually via three aircraft and three or four airports. Nothing can remove the enjoyment of the fun bits though, takeoffs and landings!

Favourite airport, Dubai. Least favourite, London Heathrow (it's an embarrassing shithole).

EDIT: Plus, a £190 pair of Ray Bans for £130.......it'd be rude not to!

I love airports! I've always wanted to buy one and live in it. Clear out all those pesky chairs and play a weird form of indoor football(soccer).

Even if that'll never happen, I still like airports. They're so big and tidy and carpeted and funky and I always get good vibes going there. Usually means I'm going someplace cool, or a friend is coming to visit.

I rarely fly so they're still a novelty for me. I like seeing all the planes, but like at motorway service stations the food can cost a fortune. I usually go to the fast food chains since they're the same price as everywhere else, and I know what I'm getting.

Its because of Assholes that we now have to take off our shoes.

Also, I like the environment of being in an airport when it is either:
A. Wet/Raining
B. Cloudy

Sunny doesn't cut it in an airport.

The upcoming "Get on the metal death trap" part does not give me a very positive opinion of airports (yeah, I know planes are "statistically" safe, but I'm also more likely to survive a car crash than a plane crash). And all those talking about brutal security should see the hilarity of my local airport - Britain's first line of defence is a man with a cone.

Going skiing with my family in mid-January, so will be flying from Manchester (UK). It'll be fine, I'm sure. Always fun going through security, since my Dad and I never fail to set the metal detectors off. Bring on the 3D scanners everyone was so bothered about...!

I tend to look at the prices of everything in Airports and laugh... never really need to buy anything anyway... At the most I'll grab some junk food, as the prices are usually the same as elsewhere.

Fucking cones, dammit, thwarted. They can't be beaten!

I like airports as long as they aren't in the US, the security there is insane it makes me feel like I'm in a fascist police state.
