Got 404 error while trying to post last time, annoying! Have to write it over XD.

Anyway, hello Escapist! After having my arm poked for a while by my fellow airsofters, I've decided to do another custom decorative sidearm, but for myself this time. Usually when I do these it's a commission, so I already have a motive to paint/replicate or other clear guidelines from the person I'm doing the sidearm for. This time I don't have those, because it's for myself, and so I find myself having a massively hard time not only settling on which gun to paint, but in even bigger part the motive I want to paint on it.

I have decided to only paint the pistol grip as I feel that looks the best. I've also already done 4 black pistols and 1 gold, so I wanted to do a silver one for myself. So far I've narrowed it down to two choices, seen at the bottom of this post. Went for the older models as I feel they look more elegant than the new ones.

As for the motive, I don't want to paint anything that's already been done on a pistol grip (as I know of), and I don't want to use one of my previous motives. I want it to be as unique and interesting as possible, but still look like something that a classy gangster from back in the day wouldn't be ashamed of putting his hands on. Please post/link pictures of motives or suggestions on what to paint, that would be greatly appreciated!

I've done the following, so you know what to clear away from:

G17, blue Chinese dragon (grip and top slide).
92FS, green/blue tribal spray paint (grip).
92FS, golden eagle (grip).
Luger 8" barrel (gold), thorn bushes (grip).
P226, coiled snake (grip).

I've narrowed my choice of sidearm down to the following two. If you have suggestions on this too, you are free to post them! Obviously, both are silver:

M1911 [http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/Gas_Pistols_SMGs_WE_WE_MEU_Silver_with_Pro_Grips.htm]

The classic pistol as used from early in the 20th century, and still today! It's timeless, good looking and provides a great surface area for painting. Very comfortable to hold, but the bumpy grip would mean that my motive would have to simple up a bit. Not necessarily a bad thing, simple can often kick intricate ass!

P38 [http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/Gas_Pistols_SMGs_Maruzen_Maruzen_P38_ac40.htm]

It looks a bit "special" compared to most modern sidearms that the average airsofter carry these days, which is why it appealed to me. Also a decent amount of grip area to paint on, and a smother surface which would allow for more intricate motives.

It's nice to see that people still care about what their guns look like (even the fake ones).

I know that when I get shot, the first thing I think of is how awesome the paint job on the gun was.

I understand well enough.

My point still stands. Nobody gives a fuck what your gun looks like when your shooting them in the face with plastic bullets.

What don't I understand exactly? Enlighten me, because you have yet to tell me what it is about airsoft guns that is beyond my comprehension.

P38 all the way, you should totally do a German WW2-esque logo with modern flare, but dimmed to fit an aged appearance, maybe even given look befitting a gangster or gang of such an old period.

o.o the 1911 is just so standard, so bland q.q

some people say the squared blandness makes the canvass, but my mind renders in 3D so abrupt corners feel asinine.

Stop to think for a second that for some people the hobby is more than just shooting people in the face... And the specific sidearm is more than a tool for said shooting in said faces. Not EVERYONE is looking for the most practical solution for everything, my original post should clearly indicate that I'm NOT. All I am looking for is to make my sidearm look spectacular, and I have no interest in the opinion of whoever I shoot in the face with it, it's FOR ME.

Just like when people commission one of these, it's because THEY want a neat looking sidearm, maybe not even for the shooting of faces, but just as a shiny object to have sitting around in their livingroom.

Have you been to an airsoft forum? The places are littered with way over-pimped rifles and pistols, things that wouldn't be practical or sane in any situations, but they do it because airsoft is about more than the shooting of faces for some people... Which is why I said you clearly don't understand, cause this has passed you by.

Good that my issues were addressed already and I can move along...

1911 might be standard, but its still an awesome gun. I run one alongside my M4 in games and its always been fun to use, most memorably holding off the entire enemy team with just my sidearm left :D

The 1911 you can replace the sides of the grip (I'm sure there is a proper term for that...) so you might be able to find non-bumpy ones.

Again, there you go with the 'you don't understand' lark.

I understand 100%, methinks you don't understand what the word 'understand' means.

The aesthetics of guns is not a difficult subject to comprehend, and hell, I even appreciate real firearms from an engineering prospective.

What you basically have is a nerf gun. A toy.

Hmmmm. What should your design be...What about a mask? no wait...a sword! Wait, no best idea, Put a picture of a gun on your gun!! That would be completely awesome!

So? He's not trying to tell you it's a real gun. Evidently this thread isn't for you, it doesn't apply to your interests. So why are you posting here? Bit of a boost for the post count?

OT: M1911 fan myself, and I love the idea of that dragon design, so perhaps something similar to that, some sort of mythical creature perhaps? Or maybe more traditional Chinese stuff, just sounds awesome.

And there you go again with your not understanding XD! Seriously, lets take this on PM from now on, too many unrelated posts in this thread me thinks... And btw, in a lot of countries (including mine), owning real guns is highly restricted, and mostly the only ones you CAN own are those intended for hunting. Airsoft provides gun-junkies like me around the world with a solution...

That is true, and indeed an option. However, if I can find a decent motive that's simple enough for the bumpy grip, I'd rather have that. So much more comfortable ^^.

The M1911 only looks standard because it was created by the Godfather of Guns, John Browning. It was, and in some circles, still is, the standard by which all pistols are judged.

Go Browning, OP. Always go Browning.

As far as gun choice goes, I'd pick the P38.

I used to think it looked ridiculous, like a gun that had fallen apart; but recently, I don't know, it's just gained an appeal in my eyes. An elegance.

As for the motive (I'm assuming you mean motif?), well... forgive me if this sounds crude, but I noticed you were named 'Vampire Cat', so I googled 'vampire symbols' and there were some interesting looking ones.

Like this one!

I don't know if it means anything, but it looks nice.

Awesome idea, by the way.

Well, if you're going with Vampire symbols, why not go with the clan symbols from Vampire the Masquerade?

I'm liking the vampire symbol idea, and I imagine it could look good on the 1911 as most of said symbols are fairly basic, but still quite interesting looking.

Yea I do like the look of that, maybe do something similar. As for colors, wouldn't that look good if I painted the base of the shape in a dark purple and then just gradually highlighted it until it hits the lower pink tones?... Hmm. I'll do a sketch, thanks for the suggestion ^^.

Personally, I'd go for the M1911. I never liked those guns with the uncovered barrel. *shrug*

I like the thought of some abstract primary colours in wavy patters.

That style
Alternatively, you could always take the black ops route and decorate it with cocks and swastikas :p

Edit: Also, yes I'm turning 18 soon! I can get myself a proper airsoft gun. Weee. And I can buy alcohol! Weee!
