Hey everyone. I wanted to ask you what you think of Al Jazeera, and I also wanted to ask why it is considered to be less trustworthy around here than a headcrab on powder cocaine. I so far don't see what the problem is, and see them only as a news station which covers more...controversial topics. Your thoughts, Escapists?

I don't distrust it, I just think it has an agenda, just like any news station. I mean I trust it more than Fox but it'd have to do something special to trump the bbc.

I would trust a zombie in the room more than I trust Fox. Seriously.

I notice a lot of love for BBC here on the Escapist; why is that?

yeah, unfortunately nothing I said had anything to do with the news... except maybe the adverts... if you are checking out the bbc I'd recommend this mildly news related program... http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6DD223447015D017&search_query=news+wipe

Because they are reknowned for being scrupulously unbiased, mainly because if they aren't, someone rings up and complains, and nobody likes that. Plus, their whole reputation is built on that neutrality. Without it, they would just be another useless bunch of journalists spouting their master's crap.

Al-Jazeera's awesome; proper global news analysed with common sense (or at least that's how it seems). I do tend to rely on the BBC website for my news updates; I did think the BBC news on the TV was alright, but after the recent swine flu/Afghanistan coverage, it's made me realise, as all news mediums do, that they're just after making a good story.

Because they are Arab, and report from an Arab perspective.

To Americans, the Iraq is about US doing stuff to THEM, rightly or wrongly.

Al Jazeera reports it as THEM doing stuff to US. Naturally, having stuff done to US is rarely a good-guy type act. Imagine how any American outlet would portray the occupation of the U.K. by Iran, with Ahmadinejad running the mouth about "unfinished business" with Canada.
